Dude these guys are so damn nuts.  I traced the development of the historiography which was kinda tough because I had to find a continuity in a school of crazyyyy thought.  I will blow your mind...one of the main arguments denier put forth is that since some Jews survived the Holocaust it never happened.  The Nazis were so efficient that if they had wanted to eliminate all the Jews they would have done so and since they didn't is proof it didn't happen.  CRAZY

It's really interesting, but only because of how bat shit crazy it is.  Read Lying About Hitler by Richard J Evans...stay away from Denying the Holocaust by Deborah Lipstadt because she is really unfair to the historical facts of the Holocaust.

Some people are super ignorant and disrespectful... But I'm intrigued, what other crazy theories did they have as to why they feel it never happened?

They do realize that there's video proof of the Holocaust, right? And not just Schindler's List or anything; actual soldiers took a camera into the camps, or something. I can't remember the details, so I'll rely on somebody with a link :P.

prescott bush (bush senior's father, george w. bushes grandfather) funded the third reich (illuminati), they caught him then he was pardonned. There will be another holocast with the new world order, their depopulation plan to control the masses, can't have everyone rebel now can we or that's difficult to control? For owls, it's very important to illuminati, they worship owls too for bohemian grove in their creamation of care pagan like ritual. In fact there is a small owl in the u.s dollar bill which probally makes reference to this. How people can deny such a thing, I do not know. A terrible scar on the history of the human race, and people try to make it sound like a myth. Just awful. There's a film called 'The boy in the pyjamas' (or something like that) about a Nazi officer who works in a concentration camp, and his son becomes friends with one of the Jewish boys he sees through the gates. I wont ruin the end, but it's a very good movie.

Yeah, I don't see how anyone can deny this. I just watched the whole World at War BBC series last year and the footage is just horrifying. I guess they would argue that the executions were just random but they were far from random  (and you can't argue they didn't happen). Anyone that looks back at history will see that Hitler saw Bolshevism (Nazism's mortal enemy) as a Jewish conspiracy. This was his motivation to wipe out an entire race from Europe, by removing it's cause.  Regarding that they could have wiped out every Jew if they wanted, that is nonsense. I don't think people understand the logistics of war and occupation. Ultimately the Nazi's realistic capabilities have been exaggerated over the years upon myth. They were a nasty force, but were really outmatched once their blitzkrieg strategy failed.

@Vitor: conspiracy theory? More like a conspiracy fact. You can google presscott sheldon bush on wiki if you want.

He wasn't a nazi sympathizer as it said, however he's part of the illuminati funding the war because nothing keeps the banking elite (illuminati) more happy then to keep a war going on because of arms sales.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prescott_Bush

Bush and the Union Banking Corporation

Bush was one of seven directors of the Union Banking Corporation, an investment bank controlled by the Thyssen family, which was seized in October 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act as being owned by "enemy aliens." The assets were held by the government for the duration of the war, then returned afterward.

In an article relying on conspiracy theorist John Buchanan's work, The Guardian stated that the company formed part of a multinational network of front companies to allow Thyssen to move assets around the world. The Alien Property Custodian records state "Whether all or part of the funds held by Union Banking Corporation, or companies associated with it, belong to Fritz Thyssen could not be established in this investigation."

In 2003, the Anti-Defamation League said:

Rumors about the alleged Nazi 'ties' of the late Prescott Bush ... have circulated widely through the internet in recent years. These charges are untenable and politically motivated. Despite some early financial dealings between Prescott Bush and a Nazi industrialist named Fritz Thyssen (who was arrested by the Nazi regime in 1938 and imprisoned during the war), Prescott Bush was neither a Nazi nor a Nazi sympathizer.

@KaosAngel: As terrible as Holocaust denial is I believe it is just as wrong to make denying it illegal.  Noam Chomsky got in alot of trouble when he came to the defense of Robert Faurisson (a French engineer who denied the Holocaust in the 1980's).  Chomsky did not support denial, but he did support the right of free speech...a lot of people labeled him a denier and an anti-Semite which is so outlandish

@Meowshi: a similar problem is those who attempt to make the Holocaust a specific Jewish experience.  It wasn't...millions of people died.  6 million of whom were Jews.  A policy of extermination was set out for all Slavic peoples including those of Poland.  I am not trying to say Jewish people didnt suffer horribly, but it is important to know that Jewish exclusivism is just as wrong as outright denial.  In recent years the term Holocaust has become a broader term to include all those who died under the Nazi regime

The public, including Germans, were largely unaware of the NSDAP's cruelties until the end of the war, and so Hitler gained a large international following of conservatives that included many prominent people with sensitive reputations. After the war, many of them were reluctant to admit or even believe they had been in error to support and fund the Nazi crimes. They chose to attempt to save their faces to the public and their consciences rather than learn from their mistakes.

I recommend checking out "Voodoo Histories," by David Aaronovitch.  It's all about how conspiracy theories develop over time and then feed into popular consciousness.  I can't remember if he addresses Holocaust denialism in particular, but he talks about a lot of other anti-semitic conspiracies, like the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" forgeries.

This is all alleged and not in any way, a proven fact. What's not alleged, however, is the very next paragraph where it states that he was involved with The United Negro College Fund, Planned Parenthood, AND The American Birth Control League. I'm no Republican, but that's pretty cool of him.

I don't get it. The Netherlands is a great liberal democracy so why do they think it is ok to limit freedom of speech and freedom of expression to such a great degree. Don't get me wrong holocaust deniers are batshit crazy and Mein Kampf is full of hate and bile, but that's not the way to go about turning people away from those ideas.

@chocolaterhinovampire:  There is also evidence for the opposite; it's an ongoing debate. From what I've read I find it hard to believe that Germans knew for certain, until it was too late, that some forced labour camps were in fact death camps. Not because that information was by any means unattainable, but because, as stated earlier, this is the sort of thing people who are, or who feel, partially responsible do not want to know about and will not talk to each other about. A similar debate exists on whether Hitler himself really had an accurate idea of what happened in the camps.

@Bones8677:

Well the deportation of the Jews was considered so terrible, and well established, that in order to never again have such a thing happen in our country the government decided to make denial of this heinous crime a legal offence. There were very few Dutch Jews left after the war, part of this harsh stance on Holocaust denial may also come from the fact that many Dutchmen readily cooperated with the Germans in deporting the Jews.

You have to look at this from a cultural and historical perspective. But if any Dutchman feels this violates his right to freedom of expression he's very welcome to try his luck at court. The European court if necessary, don't see that happening anytime soon though.

I see where you're coming from but try to look at it from our perspective, this recognises a very dark period in our history. One we're not very proud of. By having this law it was felt we would remember our part in it. We're not the only European nation to do so btw.

Hope that helps you understand it better, if not... well you have your opinions I have mine. Yay freedom! ^^
