Let's Make A Game 2013, Story Voting. (Read First Post First)
VOTING IS NOW OVER.
Welcome to Let's Make A Game 2013's Story Voting Poll!
Please read each plot before voting.
These are Basic Story Plots written by members of the Story Team. The winning story, isn't necessarily going to be the story we're going with. This poll is for us to know what story the community would like to see in a game. The actual story we're going with will be decided as a Team. Without further ado, here are the entries.
Ghostiet's
Kevin_Cogneto's
TwoLines'
SexyToad's/Tireyo643's
TehChich's
TheSouthernDandy's
TrafalgarLaw's
If you would like to help out with the project, go here.
Is @TrafalgarLaw's story about me? Because from what I've read, that's not how any of the Lunarian Kingdoms work.
Anyway, I vote for the amusement park one. Seems cool enough.
@Kevin_Cogneto: He pulls a knife, you pull a gun, he threatens the voters, you blow up his computer, and that's the Chicago way.

TwoLines has my sword. Although I also liked Tireyo and Sexy Toad's as well as TrafalgarLaw's plot, my philosophical side seduced me with the self-aware character.
I also voted for @TwoLines . Mostly because I had a similar game idea a while back but it was more Majora's Mask/Groundhog Day than Truman show. The story is bare bones but it's one that a player can easily grasp. I also feel that you could slot it into almost any type of gameplay which should help if/when the project swings one way or the other while the designers/programmers get their bearings.
Hope to see some stuff soon. Will the builds be publicly accessible by the community as you work on it? I found that it was easy to continually upload new versions while working on something using dropbox. It's what I used (am still using) to distribute that MegaMan X GiantBomb game I did a while back. Cept, I guess I haven't released any updates lately but mostly because there isn't anything actually playable yet as I'm just messing around with ideas for boss attacks -_-;;
Pretty cool of ya'll to put this out there =) It's a scary thing putting your creative works on the internets.
I was torn between Twolines' and Trafalgar's, but the former's seemed more like a gameplay premise than a fleshed out story, so I went with the latter.
TehChich's seems like the best thing you guys can do as a first project. People here will love it even if it turns out to be poop, and if more people play it you guys will get more feedback and be able to make an even better second game (assuming this isn't a one-time deal).
Also it seems like the most adorable of the stories.
I would love to see TwoLines' pitch executed; if done well that could be great.
The game will never actually be made.

I liked TwoLines pitch a lot, because it looks like it could actually incorporate pieces of the stories or ideas that we all wrote. Especially, when one can jump into different genres.
...or possibly jump into random games making it wonderfully dysfunctional.
I agree. It'd be pretty cool to see the story directly reflect the design process and maybe to see the character struggle against it all. Maybe that makes us (the creators of the game) the bad guys. :(
As far as genre jumping goes, it might be wasteful to develop mechanics which will end up under-utilised. We could still do it thematically, but it mightn't stand up on its own that way.

Yeah, I think the best thing to do is to keep it the same genre, RPG like intended, and have the player jump into crazy and different situations.
@TobbRobb: I also like both of those ideas. I was thinking of a way to combine them, but will wait and see how the voting turns out.
I liked SexyToad's & Tireyo's pitch...but I'm missing some points of intrigue and something that makes it truly special.
TwoLines' pitch may be bare bones, but it's an excellent concept. I think we could do a lot plot- and humor-wise. That's a story I'd glady work on. Though call but I went with TwoLines.
Special shout-out goes to Cogneto. I think if the setting/location would be different, I'd go with that. Absurd, but the good kind of absurd. Glad to have you on board.

I'm not the intriguing type. ^_^ lol.
I don't see how you guys are going to make a game out of TwoLine's. I went with TehChich if only because it sounds like a solid concept and was interesting. You have to think about the scope of the game guys when you start a project like this.
@TrafalgarLaw: Thank you, that's nice of you to say. My idea was to pitch a story that started out in as realistic a world as possible, and then through a series of small leaps of logic, escalated incrementally until by the end it had become completely absurd. I think my mistake was writing a pitch that tried to capture that transition with prose. I should've just said, "I want to make a game that starts out in as realistic a world as possible, and then through a series of small leaps of logic, escalates incrementally it until by the end it's completely absurd." Lesson learned, I guess.
@thabigred: Thanks for the input! With the 2012 project failing for multiple reasons, we have learned some lessons and are aiming for a one-hour(ish) experience. So we certainly have scope in mind.

I can't really choose between GB Earthbound and Wizardcops. They are both too good.
whose idea is similar to Earthbound?
