There's a precedent for rappers dedicating an entire song to expressing their affinity for video games, with my personal favorite being Beanie Sigel's video-games-as-a-parable-for-dealing-drugs opus, Mac Man. That doesn't diminish how bizarre it is to hear Ludacris mix up his usual go-to topics of smoking weed, brandishing guns, and general celebration of his status as the freshest MC in the Dirty-Dirty, with references to Ultimate Doom, MechWarrior, Galaga, Virtua Fighter, and a slew of other random-ass video games in Push the Start Button, a track from his new album, Theater of the Mind. Apparently it's only on the Norwegian version of the album,  though it should come as no surprise that the song is popping up all over the internet. Including right here!

You know, since around the time of the original PlayStation, video games and hip-hop have gone together like salt and pepper (Salt-N-Pepa?) but at 10 years old, punching SimCity codes into my dad's green monochrome 386, I never could've imagined a world 20 years into the future where rappers are spitting hot rhymes about Will Wright's urban planning simulator. Then again, there's also a Go, Diego, Go! reference in there, which makes me wonder if there's anything that Ludacris won't rap about.

LMAO! Just awesome. Awesome.

Though as an actual song, it sounds like every other Luda song, which is not a very good thing. Still awesome, I don't care.

It's like the history of games in one song... that's how it's done, Soulja Boy.

I love music as much, maybe even more than I love video games, but music/video game crossovers? No. How the fuck do you make a video game out of a musician? (50 Cent aside, considering his music and personality are already based around arrogant, violence). Also, writing a song about video games? That just seems... corny.

Soooo good, but my far and away top choice for best rapper to link (VIDEOGAMEREFERENCEOMG) together cheesy rhymes about video games is LL Cool J.

I think gaming and rap have always gone hand in hand.  Back in like 94, hearing a Wu-Tang song with the lyric "swingin' swords like Shinobi" was just another reason for a videogame-addicted little white boy like myself to listen to rap.  Not a huge fan of Ludacris, but at least he doesn't make ATL (my hometown) look bad like all the "crunk" music that's come from here.

I guess I'm one of the only people that thinks this song and ludacris sucks. It sounds so terrible. I'm not gonna give it any props for relating to video games. With access to a list of games, and an average beat anyone could have made this song. It's really quite awful. I am surprised at peoples' positive responses. Just cause it relates to games it's that much better??? Wow...sickening..

Awesome.  Ludacris is now neck-and-neck with LL Cool J's Milky Cereal for best song with crazy references.

Well, apparently I better go get my game on.

The Go, Diego Go! reference isn't that weird if you think about it.  In Number One Spot he said he was" an explora like Dora now Swiper no swipee."

Additional unexpected gratuitous reference found in a rap song go to Run DMC's Peter Piper.

Hehe, I thought it was pretty great.  And it doesn't seem like he sticks to one system, he mentioned Halo, and MGS.  Most rappers I've heard who have rapped games, usually bring praise to one system.
