Mo' Books, Mo' Problems

Alright Duders, I know some of you like books, so I have come to ask you for book-related advice.

I'm one of those people that needs to have one handy at all times for when I'm bored or just feel like reading, so I've entered a bit of a conundrum after finishing my latest book today. I really enjoy the series and want to continue, so I placed an order on amazon and they should be here in a couple days, but the wait is killing me. It feels weird not to have one handy at all times, and I have other ones I could start on, but I'm worried my interest in the series will die down if I start on another.

Should I suffer through the book-less hell that is waiting, or should I start on one of the others and risk losing interest in the series I'm currently enjoying?

Ugh, reading or any other activity that isn't washing/cleaning/grooming yourself or excreting something is a do-not-do in the bathroom for me. No way. Nu-uh. Nope.

Get a decent magazine. Doesn't need to be high-concept or anything, if it's only a few days' wait.

Get a kindle.

I command you to wait! Imagine how good it will feel to be able to read that crisp book after waiting.

A short story collection or a collection of excerpts can be good as a filler. I dislike breaking up reading a series of books and have to finish books once I start reading them, I can't swap from book to book. I have a small book at the moment called 'Reflections on Paris' which is made up of a whole bunch of extracts from authors such as Hemingway, Dickens, Zola etc which was good as a filler between proper novels. Also has encouraged me to get more of their specific books (while I love Hemingway I have never read A Moveable Feast which is something I will now rectify).

I'm on board with waiting or the short stories. Maybe some PKD ones you can get on amazon kindle and read them on the PC or your phone if it supports it and you don't have a kindle. But you probably already do since you read.

I gotta go with VGK. I have seen people carry entire computers in order to play them at conventions. Besides, if Hugh Glass can survive a grizzly bear attack and live while crawling 200 miles to safety you can get a desktop PC in a bathroom!

I just mean that you can do anything if you are determined/not giving a single fuck. If a man can live through a grizzly bear attack and crawl his way to safety 200 miles away. Then a person could EASILY put a computer in their bathroom.

I suspect you're up to something. I will not be an accomplice to your sordid endeavors.

Although I will say that if you are really so worried about it you could always skim the one you just finished in situations where you would be inclined to do so. Go over your favorite bits a second time, give some other scenes a second look and see if some potentially interesting detail that could be more important than you initially thought and which maybe you didn't notice the first time stands out. Authors are tricky bastards and like to do that kinda shit.

Or find some short stories somewhere on the internets to hold you over for the time being. Here's oneor twoor three to get you started. I don't know what you like, but I've read the first two and liked them quite a bit (although the subject matter is a bit disturbing which may not be your thing). Don't read the second one while waiting for a late bombcast to come up though, as I can tell you from personal experience that if the bombcast is still not up when you've finished you will feel like garbage twice over.

Hmmm how to solve this problem.... Shrooms! Get it? Because I'm a SexyToad. But in all actuality you should just wait. Get a doll or something you can bite on while you wait! Then when you finally get it. You'll feel just awesome when you finally get to read. Also what book?

I wrote a whole paragraph about downloading porn novella, deleted it, but forgot to delete the intro to the paragraph.

You should read jPod. That book is fucking amazing and if you're in any way interested in gaming (Which I'm going to assume you are, since you are here, on giant bomb forums), it makes it even better.

Books are awesome.

Short story collection like Skeleton Crew (Stephen King) would tide you over nicely. The Mist, Gramma and Survivor Type are the best stories in the collection. Go to it!
