So, to clarify the title: are there any movies that you feel the need to watch over again because you weren't in the proper mindset the first time? As in, you weren't really feeling it at the time, but you just know that the movie is good.

For me some movies that come to mind are: Moneyball, World War Z and Benjamin Button. The fact that they are all Brad Pitt movies is pure coincidence. But yeah, I just wasn't in the mood for the pacing at the time, and in some cases my mind was just on other things. I think I would enjoy Moneyball if I watched it again though.

I've never felt the need to re-watch it because I wasn't in the mood. If I'm not in the mood I just turn it off. And then watch it later. Or maybe I don't. Maybe I just chalk it up to me not being into that movie and move on. I only re-watch movies I know I like.

I'm kinda tempted to re-watch Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. I vaguely remember renting the movie as a kid and thought it was lame funny before I fell asleep midway through. I wonder if it holds up. Another film I'll probably try re-watching is Cliffhanger another movie I haven't seen in maybe 20 years but because someone on these forums described it as Die Hard on the mountains I'll probably watch it again.

@rongalaxy: if it's the John Carpenter version, I'm right there with ya.

@madman356647: Yup, definitely the john carpenter version.

Funny story: this week I was near best buy and figured "hey, I'm gonna go buy the thing on bluray". Went to the movie section, saw "the thing" for 6.99, bought it. And while I was in the car I looked at the case and realized "fuck, this is the prequel from 2011". Immediately returned it and looked for the 1982 movie. Sadly they didn't have it. So yeah, I was almost tricked into paying money for that shit. You almost fooled me movie shills!

I was not in the right mind state while watching Tarkovsky's The Mirror, so I stopped part-way through. I am sure I will start it again sometime soon.

@rongalaxy: I had that exact same experience. Bullshit, eh?

I am actually rewatching Inception right now for this very same reason. This movie is real similar to Paprika, but I am liking Inception a whole lot more on the second viewing.

I'm a bit tempted to rewatch Splice and Braveheart. It's been ages since I watched those movies, and while everybody seems to hold them in high regard, I can't fucking stand either of them.

Other than that I hope to rewatch Susperia, Friday The 13th, Evil Dead and Black Christmas this month. I fucking love those movies, they're some of the scariest films I've ever seen.

@civid: I honestly didn't realize that Splice was considered highly regarded in some circles, I was under the impression that the general reaction to that film was middling.

Watchmen is a movie that I liked much more when I watched it for a second time.

Neighbors. I was hammered the first time and I have no idea what happened in it, although I remember laughing.

I don't believe I've ever had this happen; there's plenty of movies I should rewatch just because they're excellent movies but as far as misjudging them based on some mental/physical ailment I'm not too sure. I had an awful experience buying the Last of Us from Gamestop and that partially colored my initial feelings for the game but that didn't stop me from considering it a top 10 game ever.

I should try to watch Black Snake Moan again. I saw it once with my mom because she was a big Samuel L. Jackson fan. If you haven't seen Black Snake Moan it's an odd but interesting movie about Samuel L. Jackson curing Christina Ricci of her nymphomania by chaining her to a radiator. Needless to say Ricci spends quite a bit of the movie topless so that was really awkward.

Two years ago I had the flu and somehow ended up watching Brian Easton Ellis' Rules of Attraction. I don't know if it was a combination of being nearly delirious and on medication but apparently my recollection of the movie differs from everyone elses.
