I tend to buy those Microsoft headphones you can find for around $20-$40. My head phones always die in one ear like 6 months in, so after the previous pair broke on me I said fuck this shit and went with a USB one after hearing Norm mention that he uses a USB headset on one of the tested podcasts and learning that such a thing existed. I'm really hoping this will prevent the one ear dying thing from happening with this pair. Really getting sick and fucking tired of buying a new headset every 4-6 months.

If you want quality, look into the brand Sennheiser. Nothing but awesome stuff from them. They're kind of expensive, but I bought a pair 8 years ago that I'm still using.

I am fairly satisfied with my HD555 headphones. It has a very good music listening : video gaming ratio for my needs. What ever you do DO NOT BUY a headset.

I use AKG K 242 HD headphones. I then tore a mic off another shitty headset and used velcro to attach and unattach when I want.

Sennheiser. Always buy Sennheiser. That is, if you care about audio quality.

Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro

These are studio monitoring headphones but they are really good for gaming too.

Sennheiser certainly makes quality products (my pair of HD-280 Pros are still going strong after five years) but I find that their headsets tend to be fairly expensive compared to what you really need from a gaming headset. So I recently purchased the Ear Force X12 from Turtle Beach (I needed a headset for BF3), which I've been liking so far, and they're only $60 retail (I got it at Best Buy), ~$55 on Amazon. As a bonus it works for both 360 and PC, so that's useful if you play on both platforms.

@xdaknightx69: Logitech USB headset. Costs $40, but the sound and mic quality is good. As long as you don't need sound isolation they'll work fine.

I have a pair of Sennheiser PC 350s. They cost a pretty penny but I have had no issues with them, they sound recording studio quality, have a build quality that screams "it's okay to drop me", and are in general probably my favorite accessory for my PC. You'll find yourself upgrading your music to FLAC though.
