Actions speak louder than word. All of that stuff sounds nice (and he has been giving this same exact speech for the past year), but we are all going to have to wait and see what he does.

I thought it was funny how half the chamber would stand and clap and the other half sat... looking. It was a good speech, let's see if words can move a mountain.

Overall, a good speech. As is typical for our president, a bit too unspecific at times. Highlights for me

  • Obama mentioned market based caps for emissions, and I'm in favor of cap and trade initiatives. Hope this happens.
  • He mentioned a bill bearing the name of Orrin Hatch and Ted Kennedy, which is awesome, my senator got a name drop! Go Orrin!
  • Preventitive measures in health care are nice, and so is curing cancer but how do you plan on doing these things?

Let's see where he goes with this.

I didn't watch it, but I have a feeling the reception from the republican side will be swift and obvious.

It's fun to see that Obama's fellow politicians ask him for his autograph like as he was a moviestar. I do think he has some influence with the republicans, at least he went down to them right away and they were anxious to talk to him.

So far, he's not presenting well. Compared to his appearance on Meet the Press, he seems fake. He's calling for bipartisan action, pointing out problems with the stimulus bill. He told a story to make a point about people being the best solution, not government bureaucrats. He also seems to subtly be making the case for Jindal 2012 by touting his record as Louisiana's governor. It's a better speech than most responses, but the prsentation just isn't working for me.

EDIT: Claude nailed it, he's got some vibe that seems like he's talking to a second grade class.

To be honest I thought Mitt Romney would get the nomination in 2012 unless Obama bottomed out in his first term.

I'm going to campaign for John Huntsman in 2012 or 2016 if he tries for it. He's my political hero of the year. If Palin is in anyway related, I'm voting Obama without a doubt. I'm still undecided on Jindal.

Fuck....Orrin....Hatch.  Son of a bitch pissed me off years ago.

Also, Obama's speech would've been better if it had been something more like this:

"My Fellow Americans...I, President Barack PACMAN PACMAN PACMAN PACMAN PACMAN, would like to take this time to PACMAN PACMAN PACMAN PACMAN PACMAN everyone who helped us get to the MOON this week."

That is all.  = D

I'll play the blond. I have no idea. Let's see what happens in the next four or three... damn, in our time, maybe two years.

I still like a Democratic President and the House and Senate being Republican. I don't know, that's my opinion, but it seems to help in the checks and balances of our government.

Any motherfucker that wants to call the video games, music, and movies we enjoy and play "filth" can...to borrow from Jeff...suck shit from a lead pipe marked "shit delivery system"....especially when he was talking with Liebermann back in 1999 about instilling government control over all three of those mediums in order to regulate it.

Plus, let's not forget the "copyright" incident.  I still have the letters I sent him after he said that shit.  Motherfucker goes pirating shit himself, then talks about destroying OUR computers?  Fuck him.

That's why.

universal healthcare is going to be a nightmare.

anyways.
everything else sounds good.
and he acts like he is fuckin kennedy by saying things like we will cure cancer in our time! as if his words will have anything to do with it, he's only saying this because there were some recent scientific breakthroughs regarding the elimination of cancer.
anyways, i love listening to the guy, not because i like em or anything, but because its refreshing to have a president that communicates so well, hard to believe what we put up with for the past 8 years really. but thing is for sure, this man makes too many promises, he had to give up or alter the majority of the promises he made before being elected, and now he's making new ones.

I liked hearing about his focuses on Energy, Healthcare, and Education. And I love that he is going to still try the bipartisan approach. What i didnt like was SIT THE F___ DOWN PELOSI! Seriously, she stood up and clapped after almost every sentence! Jesus... But yeah, i hope that Obamas plan pulls us out of the shithole we are in. Its nice to have a president with a plan, and who spends money with a plan to get it back, unlike the guy who put us in a record defecit, whose name will remain unmentioned.

"The money you've deposited in banks across the country is safe, your insurance is secure, you can rely on the continued operation of our financial system. That's not the source of concern,"

I loved when he said this. The concept of FDIC is hilarious. Deposits are insured 100%, even though only 10% of deposits are actually redeemable. One would think that to be a source of concern...

It's so easy to insure money when you have a monopoly on counterfeiting.

Yet another politician promising big things that will eventually crash and burn at their feet, leaving us to pick up the pieces while they remain in power.  That is what I saw.

...I don't have a party...I wrote Josh Homme (from kyuss.queens of the stone age) for the election. It has nothing to do with who won or lost.

My opinion is right. This isn't going to be a downturn or a small recession. It's going to be a depression, and Obama isn't going to change that.

Possibly, I'm more of an observer of sorts. I don't post as much as I used to. Although I'm actually out of character on Fark, unlike here.

I could have sworn you were Pants, you both (From what I remember, I could be wrong, I do have anterograde amnesia) shiat on Keynes and follow a similar economic philosophy (Except he's a douche, which is why I held reservations until now, when I read the responses to the headline "House Democrats respond to President Obama's call for fiscal restraint... by submitting a $410 billion spending bill featuring "thousands" of earmarks"" of today; which some submittard posted).

Anyways, I was just checking, as well as doing a plug-in for Fark.

Hmm....is it worth posting on? Seems kind of...messy?

But yea, it looked as if we have similar views. I would like to think I'm a little less crazy though and at least have a degree backing me for a little credibility. He just seems like a Ron Paul worshiper. Or maybe he's part of the Rand cult (for the record..I hate anything associated with Ayn Rand..including her followers). I do like to shit on keynes a lot though. Destroying a theory 100% has never been easy until I started reading his ridiculous philosophy (I thought the multiplier effect was a joke at first). I wrote an essay on keynes to win a scholarship actually. I used contradictions in his own theory rather than from an austrian perspective. Great fun.

But maybe I'll join fark...it seems very lively. If I do, I gotta know your name on there. Maybe I'll go on as a keynesian.

"Hmm....is it worth posting on?

Great fun.

Oh you might recognize me when you join, you might not. Either way, different name, actual persona, I generally join in on the political scandal threads, but make sure you have as many back ups as possible. I'm up to at least 1,000 just in case. You'll know what I mean. But try not to enter the thread I mentioned, wait for a new one. There's at least two a day of the same subject.

No alts though, there's enough of that already. The last thing you want is to land in this situation.
