I'm not fond of sports (playing or watching), but I love kids. So when my sisters 4 boys are over, I am just as likely to pick up a football as anyone. However, being the desk-jockey I am, I'm not in the best shape. I'm not overweight, I'm just not in shape.
So here I am two days after our backyard brawl and I'm so sore I didn't sleep a wink last night. My throwing arm/shoulder/back are killing me. No matter what position I assume I FUCKING HURT. And looking down to piss is the worst.
Yeah I overdid it but what now? Someone suggested Icy Hot but I'd have to buy a bunch of those to cover my soreness. I stood in a warm shower till the water went cold then stood in a cold shower. I've popped as many Tylenol as I can, I've got up and moved around, I've propped myself up in bed, I've tried 'working' it out...but fuck I feel like someone has ran a rope through my muscles and are trying to pull a few knots through.
Maybe I should introduce those kids to some TF2, you know, all nice and safe like.
Ouch
Damn dude, you must seriously be out of shape. Look into doing daily small jogs or walks and push-ups/crunches.
Stretch before!
Also, get a kinect and shape your fitness evolved with some small weights. Though I'm not biased at all :p
You could go get a professional massage and/or go see a chiropractor. That's the best/most expensive solution.
Sounds like you just pulled some muscles though, so you gotta suffer through it. Track down some Myoflex or something, its a deep penetrating heated pain relief rub. Just a gel type thing you apply to the sore areas and itl get all warm and make you feel WAY better. Super handy stuff to have.
Also next time, do a few stretches!

Ummm...I heard that Stretching is bad." You could go get a professional massage and/or go see a chiropractor. And hey dammit CVS just closed so I'm in for another night of this shit. But I'll look for some of that gel, thanks.

When I say I'm out of shape, I mean I've done nothing to strengthen my upper body, like at all. But I'm 35 and have no 'beer gut' so I'm not too worried." I'm scared to start working out because all my skinny friends got fat after they worked out and then quit due to work/kids/etc.
The only thing that has ever worked for me is time. It just goes away after a few days/weeks. Maybe try a hot shower?

That article is poorly named. The takeaway from it should be this sentence near the end" @Xeiphyer said:

" Instead, Booth recommends active stretches that mimic the movement of your intended activity, like some deep knee lunges while walking for runners. "
Stretching is still very important so you don't fuck up yourself like you did =P

Yeah man... prevention seems to be the best option. Stretching beforehand and starting basic exercises will do wonders. I just started working out again and after the first time, for a couple days it felt like had I got my ass kicked.
I bought the Perfect Pushup and that thing is goddamn brutal. I could hardly lift my hands to dry them on a towel after washing them. And this was from the girly knee pushups, no less. On the plus side, I'm definitely larger in my upper body now, and I don't have as much jiggle on my arms.
Might also look into passive body weights like arm/leg bands or vests since you seem to do a bit of walking.
