Screw it all.  I have to ask this instead.

How can a band go from this

to this

Surprise?

That's your reason for picking on them? Out of the thousands of reasons, you choose that one?

Not that I'm trying to defend Linkin Park, but it's not all that surprising.  Scores from movies often get worked into the scores of their sequel in a slightly remixed way to keep the same general tone and a recognizable tune.  Seems like a similar concept.

Well they probably asked for a Linkin' Park song. You hear a couple times in the movie, it ain't a big deal.

As a fan of Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and lesser so with Midnight I'd have to agree. Their songs are usually about regret or sadness of some sort. No way I'm going to argue their lyrics are original or engaging when you've heard it for the hundredth time in a different wrapping but it's the sound that pulled me in personally. I usually just block out the words and listen to the instrumentals.

All I used to hear after Hybrid Theory and Meteora was people complaining that they only use the same sound and that they had to branch out, so they went for a new sound with MtM and now all I see is people complaining that they abandoned their musical style

:-S

Apart from that I agree with everything else, New Divide in particular offends my ears.

Perhaps the people complaining didn't like Linkin Park in the first place?  Because something like Breaking the Habit is experiementation.  M2M is not Linkin Park at all.

Meh. I don't really hate Linkin Park at all, I would be a liar if I said I didn't like their sound at all, but their stuff is what I listened to in sixth grade back when I thought Linkin Park was the cutting edge of edginess. I'll still listen to Collision Course once in a while because that's great stuff and I like Jay-Z but you really have to question the maturity of the listener (most fans over like 15 seem to be girls from what I can tell) after a certain point.

I can't totally bash Linkin Park because they were one of the firsts bands I listened to that were even remotely rock or metal. They helped me to notice rap is awful and all the better band out there like Disturbed and A7X. After listening to them now they really sound pretty bad and I don't really know what I liked about them. Oh wait Numb is a good song, the rest of their stuff especially the new isn't that good though. New divide is a really boring ass song

Like Jayge and Deathdealer, I used to like Linkin Park. In fact, I still listen to some of their songs from time to time. It was the band that got me into rock music.

And Krwlng is a cool song. That is all.

Who are you to say what Linkin Park is? I'm not even a fan and it's pretty obvious that since Linkin Park created it's own music, it can be whatever it wants.  This is a juvenile thread from a poster of consistently juvenile threads.

i like how they look now then what they look like before. i don't rate bands by what they look like. they could all be transgendered people and i would still listen to them. that parody that somebody put sounded kind of the same. i don't believe it all sounds the same. u can say that about any band with the same song. to me rap sounds all the same.

It's a hip hop influenced rock band.
They use to wear hoodies and shorts.

You know, sort of like a lot of normal people?

After selling multiple successful albums, they had the spare cash to buy decent clothes. I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this... but does how a band dress really affect your opinion of their worth? If you have a beef with their music, then fine; everyone has different tastes; but what does it matter how they dress in the slightest...

Personally, my beef is not with the "sameness" of their music, but in their change from a sound I was familiar with and enjoyed, to a softer beat that makes them sound like every other band out there. I also loathe their pure rap songs. Some borderline rapping mixed with melody and emotion is what makes a good Linkin Park song to me.

@SmugDarkLoser:

Linkin Park was and is still not influenced by Hip Hop. Maybe influenced by Rap Metal music, but not by the Hip Hop culture. When I think of Hip Hop I think of The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, and Mos Def. I don't really believe that these artists or any similar artists had a profound influence on Linkin Park.

@SmugDarkLoser:

have you ever heard enigma?

their musics tend to be much more similar between themselves, to the point your head is in one song while it plays another.

it's bad... that's i only have their greatest hits collection lol

The rest is a waste of money.

And for me linkin park is a great band.

And every artist (music/writter/etc) at some point rerashes it's material. That's common... even because it's a common and safe place to start building something from.

cheers

I concur. Honestly, put side-by-side, "New Divide" and "What I've Done" sound nearly identical.
I have a guilty pleasure for Hybrid Theory-era Linkin Park. Their sound changed dramatically after Shinoda went off and did Fort Minor.

I like a fair amount of Linkin Park songs. I realize that they aren't necessarily very creative but the lyrics and the catchy-ness are why I like them.

If you feel that way, you probably won't like their next album, either. Sounds like it will be the same sound as Minutes to Midnight; which is a pretty ironic Album title, seeing as how it's the downfall of Linkin Park, in my opinion. There were one or two songs I didn't like on every album prior. There's only one or two I *like* from MtM.

I'm  hoping they did New Devide as a promo song for Transformers.   Hopefully it soudns the same because Transformers made then do it that way.

At least Linkin Park released a ton of there old unreleased songs recently when M2M disappointed lots of their old fans.   I think the timing was no coincidence.

MTM is one of the best albums i have heard, whereas I only like a few tracks on the previous albums. Yeah they have changed, but for the better imo.

I really doubt they care about the old fans. They prefer the music they are playing now and still have millions of people who will to see them live.

It's true that a lot of the music they do sounds similar. However, when they utilize Shinoda more the music tends to be much more varied, and better overall.

New songs from the Underground album.  Now released obviously, but were songs that were scrapped.  Lots of it is highly experimental stuff and what i was expecting Linkin Park to do.  But then they did something completely out there.

Linkin Park has really released tons of albums.  You just don't hear about them.  They Underground X.0 albums.

Afraid this Time (aka Limp Biskit song)

Dedicated (hear fort minor?  i do, but also linkin park.  obviously an inspiration for it)

State of Art

Linkin Park with some guy- Hardly Breathe

High Voltage

Under Attack (original Crawling)

There's tons.  Search it up.

@SmugDarkLoser: Yeah, I've heard all those. I was just wondering if there was anything truly new. Most of those songs are even on multiple Underground albums. They should really only release when they have something new to add to the table.

I'd like to hear some of the songs they had written for MtM that didn't make it. Apparently, there were a lot of them. I think Qwerty must have been one of them, being released shortly before news of MtM surfaced.

Linkin park has two really good songs... they're old stuff and their new stuff. They just spread these these two good songs over several albums.
