Ravi Drums Returns to the Kodak Theatre

Here's something awesome that was brought to my attention this morning by 38 Studios' observant-ass Rich Gallup. Those of you that happened to watch the Oscars (AKA the Grammys for movies) last night may have noticed a familiar face during A.R. Rahman's live performance of "O... Saya" from Slumdog Millionaire. No, I'm not talking about the seemingly infinite number of actual celebrities that were on-hand for the awards, I'm talking about none other than everyone's favorite smiley, overenthusiastic, rooster-headed Wii Music demo-ist, Ravi Drums! It was a fleeting appearance, one that you easily could have missed if you weren't paying very close attention, or if you were pouring yourself a tumbler of bourbon in the other room like some people. Luckily, the Internet has got your back! Skip ahead to 3:48 to see Ravi showing as much passion for real drums as he did for imaginary ones.

I totally noticed that last night but just said to myself, "Nah...that's not possible." But there Ravi Drums goes again proving that anything is possible....

People watch the Oscars?  They have the internet now, you know.  3+ hours of shit or 3 seconds of google followed by "Huh, Slumdog did well."

Who is this "Oscar?"

A.  9 minutes for a musical performance at the Oscars?  I feel so bad for the people in the audience.

I noticed that as well and exclaimed "DUDE, WHAT?!" when I saw it last night.

Its nice to know the guy makes a living.

I remember that guy, he sure gets around!

For more Ravi Drums excitement check out the last 5 minutes of Oprah today.  The entire number is performed in the theatre for the show and during the performance there is another sweep shot of the enthusiastic drumming.

As soon as I saw him last night I knew who it was. I said the same thing, he loves real drums too. lol

FYI, he's also sitting at the bottom right when John Legend is singing.

@ alConn: What's wrong with a prestigious event that celebrates and rewards the hard work and creativity of an entire industry of people? Do you have ADHD or something?

The Oscars are a farce. Slumdog is a good movie, but it's easily the most overrated of the year. The Wrestler was a lot better in my opinion. So was The Visitor, and The Dark Knight, and even Wall-E.
As for Ravi, he is just plain silly.

Peter Gabriel deserved that Oscar.

I missed the E3 stuff so I'm just discovering Ravi today. Oh dude, he's awesome, and appears everywhere! The YouTube videos of him make the E3 thing even funnier, he's a damn good drummer so that seems so out of place.

oh god, i saw this guy on the morning news with an all see through drum setup (his mouth was open the ENTIRE time) 

That dude actually performed for my company's annual retreat.  He's actually pretty good and we all had a blast.

only gaming geeks would know who this guy is, and its very funny. he's taking over the world, one kodack theater show at a time.

Ravi... that man loves drums. And the internet community... hates Ravi. Poor Ravi.

And I'm telling you guys, he puts out some great dance music.  I actually bumped right into him the night before he performed at a concert (my company goes all out for these retreats) and he's tiny....not even up to my shoulder.
