SO..... I just blew my mind. Black site version.

@splodge: I can't tell if you are serious or not. The site defaulted to black when you signed up I believe. The cache of the site on the day you signed up 4/27/2010. Everyone knows the real chat happened on the GB bbs.

Huh? Do you mean someone who understood usability told them to make a white version, because from a usability perspective, black text on a white screen is better in most cases.

It hurts my eyes a little less, I guess. But the white looks way better aesthetically. You can just kind of tell that the site wasn't designed to be black. So I just use the default color scheme now.

I can't stand the black site version.

The white version is unusable. It's blindingly bright to the point of physical pain.

Black reminds me too much of gaming sites in the 90s (cough, gamespot)

I use the white version... because that's what I'm used to websites looking like. I associate colored backgrounds with amateur, virus-riddled junk from the late 90s.
I'm aware GB is neither of those things, but It's just the way I am.

@sergio: You can blast your eyeballs with more light from the screen. White text on black is easier on the eyes. This is not a piece of paper (as much as Apple wanted to make it look that way).

For all those white background nay sayers ... what kind of shirt Vinny uses? Black!!!!! So if you wanna be as cool as Vinny use black background... duh... also inverted controls and you can join the cool kids :D

Any time I look at the white version, I feel like a hole begins to burn in my retinas. Black all the way.

Hard to imagine people not using the black version of the site. Its like the classic and you cannot go wrong with it.

I prefer the dark version, and it actually was the initial stock version of the site, but I cannot for the life of me get the dark version to stick. It keeps randomly switching back to the white version so I fucking give up.

I totally forgot there was a white version until I wiped my computer recently...

I have known about the ability to switch pretty much since the beginning, but I almost always stick to black. Because of this thread, I switched to white for a little while and then I switched back. I couldn't imagine using the white site for long periods of time, it's just way too bright.

EDIT: "Beginning" meaning "when I first started coming here, in 2011", not "when the site launched".

Whenever I remember that people can choose the white site I think about how mad it is that there is one solitary website (I've seen) that allows you this.

First thing I did after they made a white version default is switch it back. Dark side for life!

@zolroyce: It's honestly growing on me. I wish I stuck with the change earlier, for whatever reason the first few minutes after switching make reading a little disorienting prompting my switching back.

Edit: Ah, seems to be a very recent song. That explains it, excellent.

It used to be the default, no idea why they changed it. Every site should have a dark theme, light themes often times hurt my eyes.

@fram: That's funny because I don't use the white site partially because it's so bright. Sometimes I'll be on GB at night then open a new tab only to be BLINDED!

It's funny that you mention that, because I almost embeded Paint it Black at first. Most people know Vega from Toms Diner DNA remix, or My Name is Luca, but she's been going on strong for about 30 years now. The album she released before this latest--Beauty and Crime--is especially good, IMO.

Hahaha that very thing happened to me the other night. I have since learned the value of having ambient light.

The white theme was absolutely the right idea to have but making it default was the only thing Dave Snider did that I ever cursed. Every time I would log in from another computer I would see that and just revile that savagery for the few seconds until I logged in.

Is the secret chat like the secret pm thing? Cause I was part of that for a while.

The black version is so much better, the white one slightly hurts my eyes if I'm here for over five minutes.

As far as I'm concerned, there is only a black site.
