Okay so I will be heading to London in a couple of weeks for some much needed Va-kay. I was just wonding if anyone from the UK or anyone who has been can recommend me some beverages and food; either good or disgusting, that I can taste-test. Also, if you have any suggestions for resturants, pubs, etc. feel free to throw those in as well

Try to find a relatively expensive pork pie (screw swine flu, it's cooked to death anyway), same goes for fish and chips and curry-both excellent if done nicely and truly British. There aren't any really British drinks that I can think of off the top of my head. Warm beer is a myth. There aren't localised versions of fast food that I can think of, so nothing special there. That's all for now.

Come to my house! Play some games with me. I'll even throw in a free beer.

In all seriousness, just go with the flow. Small restaurants are the best, if you need a snack, don't go to the Pret/Costa/Eat./Starbucks on every single corner, go to a newsagent. Mainly because spearmint polos are win. But thats just me showing my taste in snacks. If you wanna get a feel for london, don't take reccomendations, just remember where you are staying and drift.

I'll be at a big corporate shopping center this weekend to show how much I agree with my advice! (It is against my will).

OH, and if you care about comics, go to Forbidden Planet.

Sorry, none of this was actually helpful, but I said it anyway.

Try Everything! i can't honestly sit here and recommend specific things. Go wild in the "crisp", snack and chocolate sections!

I heard English people drink warm beer. Gross... I've never been there, but I always pictured it like New York. I would buy some kind of Ale. I don't know any brands but I know England's famous for Ale.

You have to go to a Mah 'n Pah tea parlor at some point. You don't get those in the states.

I'm glad to hear you're here for 2 weeks, some people come here for 3 days and expect to see everything. There are nice bars and pubs all over London, certainly in the North however. Camden Town is nice, there's a market there and again - plenty of pubs. World's End is quite nice, overpriced but with the £ down on the $ it shouldn't be so bad.

I need to know a few things though:
how old are you?
do you like clubbing? if so what kind of music?
do you like art?
do you like live music?
do you like museums?
do you like comic books?
are you a student?

etc. etc. etc. etc.

There is so much to do in London, you need to let us know what kind of thing you are after. If pubs is all you want then you don't really need any advice, they are everywhere.

WELCOME TO ENGLAND!

What's this rubbish about warm beer? I worked in a pub and we never served warm beer. Nor have I ever been to a pub where they serve warm beer.

I'm not from ol' London (bit further north in Birmingham) so I can't really make any suggestions. There are people better equipped than I at that kind of thing.

Make sure you watch some real football.

Food and Snacks to try while you are in London:

McCoy's Salt & Vinegar Crisps
IRN-BRU (fizzy drink, totally awesome)
Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate
Indian food from an Indian restaraunt
A full English Breakfast from a cafe
Mixed Kebab (all the better if you are drunk)
McVitie's Milk Chocolate Digestive Biscuits
Maryland Choc Chip Cookies
Rubicon Guava Juice Drink

... I'll think of more later.

If you're a dare devil, try the 6 new flavours of Walkers crisps, making sure you keep a bucket near you at all times because those bad boys WILL come back on you.

What? Have you even ever been? That is so ridiculous and not true... but if one were to go to a little more tourist Pub... try out Punching Judy's.

Anyway, find some beer battered chicken strips. I think it was chicken strips and not beer battered fish. Been a bit over 2 years since I was there. Anyway, look for those, damn they were great!

Well, stay to the smaller places. You'll get a more authentic feel. Learn about the "London Walk" tours and go on them. Sure that is a tourist thing but you get a great perspective from all sorts of things. Pub walk, Jack the Ripper walk, all sorts of things.

I could say a lot but one more thing: get an Oyster card. Its the reloadable card for traveling on the Tube. MUCH cheaper than buying Tube tickets every day. Anyway, London is great, enjoy your time there!

Go to east London to a place called Brick Lane, and try out one of the amazing curry houses we have there. The food is both delicious and cheap. Also in East London, you should definitely try a traditional Pie & Mash, at one of the many old cafes we have there.

As far as the disgusting, I recommend you go to a very old  fish stall called Tubby Isaacs, it's been there for years, You should try jellied Eels.

I strongly recommend going to some art galleries if you can.
Other wise if you really want a feel of the place just walk around, visit our china town, go to Soho if you have a friend with you, oh and visit Camden market if you get a chance.

Avoid Brixton…

Fabric is alright, but it's certainly not the best, there's far too many students in there.
