After eating Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday I sat down in front of my computer to go play some games only to literally have sparks and flames shoot out the back of my monitor as soon as I turned it on. So suffice it to say I'm now in the market for a new monitor.
I went to a local Futureshop and picked up the one I'm using now, but sadly the store sucked and they only had three different monitors in the entire dam store and they were all this same model just in three different sizes. I plan to take it back as soon as I can get a good one to replace it with, because this one is extremely faded and no matter how I adjust the gamma/contrast/etc. everything on it looks overly white and faded out.
So I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a good monitor. I'm looking to stay around the $100-$150 price range, but I'm willing to go as high as $200. My understanding is that LED ones are the new thing all the kool kids are buying, but I have never had to go monitor shopping before, they have always came with my PC when I bought it and they always outlived the PC, so I'm going to defer to the Giant Bomb tech brain trust to set me straight on the subject. I plan to go online and do some research of my own on this subject, but I was wondering what are some things I should be looking out for when shopping. Is refresh rate/ghosting still a problem, or is that a thing of the past?
Guidelines:
- $100-$200.
- Must ship to Canada and not charge border fees.
- Size doesn't really matter to me, but because of bad eye sight I really don't want to go much beyond 1600 range.
- It will be used for gaming and watching movies.
