So I really enjoy Supernatural, the second episode of season 8 starts in a few hours and I'm pretty excited about this new season. I hope it will be better than last year's lackluster season. I don't know if there is as a big of a following for Supernatural as there is for Breaking Bad but I'll give this a try because I really enjoyed the Breaking Bad season 5 thread. I think a supernatural thread would be a good place to have a Supernatural discussion of the new season and the show in general.

Personally I enjoyed last years season more than most people seemed to although the show definitely hasn't reached its peaks of season 5 or the end of season 2 in these past two seasons. James Patrick Stuart's brilliantly hammy performance as Dick Roman made any scene he was in so much fun, but Leviathans were kind of a disappointing villain their plan and methods were interesting but as individual monsters they were fairly uninteresting. Bobby shouldn't have died by the leviathans he didn't deserve to go out to such an un-original monster. Death's Door, his last living episode was a pretty damn exceptional episode though, once again the show does brilliant mid-season finales.

So what do you think of the show? What do you think of last year's season and last week's premiere and what do you hope comes out of this season? On top of any other supernatural related discussions and topics which come to mind.

Anyway to anyone interested lets get to talking about this awesome show and see how this season develops.

I can tell by the way your sentences run on that you're really excited about this show and this thread.

It's a pretty good show. I actually went and rewatched the first 7 seasons over the summer. Season 7 was indeed pretty weak, and I still think Borax is a silly thing to be vulnerable to. So far the new season looks like it might deliver on what I've been wanting from the show all along, and that's some actual progression to Sam and Dean's monster killing skills. Almost every episode they come within an inch of death, even when fighting something they've killed dozens of, e.g. demons. Now it looks like Dean actually grew some goddamn balls in purgatory. Not really excited about this whole Kevin Tran thing though. Kid's kind of annoying.

Also, pretty sure Dean and that vampire killed Cass to get out of purgatory...or something equally crazy.

Yea, I still enjoy the show, but its gone down hill since season 5. Though season 5 was pretty fucking epic. They need a solid antagonist again. They never developed anything worthwhile or bothered to stick with anything they had. I kinda want them to let the Devil out of the box, but would need some good writing to make that work.

I wish the shows would slow down a bit again. Something in the pacing of the episodes hasnt been there since season 5. Cant really put my finger on what that is though.

I still enjoy watching it. It has changed so much from the first few season it doesn't really seem like the same show. I've been watching it for so long why stop now. Plus the episode two seasons ago when they went into the "real" world. It's episodes like that, that could backfire so bad but they pull of perfectly that keep me around.

I still watch it (though now I have to wait a week for the episode to get posted to hulu because my cable company and CW had some issue over money), but I really think this show should have ended already. It just feels like they're stretching it and at this point, they've killed of any recurring character in their lives, the brothers basically just have each other. I kind of wish we got to see John Winchester come back and figure back into the plot.

You have no idea how much I love Supernatural. It's in my top 3 shows. But since season 5 ended, the show hasn't been as good. Mainly because you can't really do a villain bigger then the devil himself. So everything after Lucifer just feels like child's play. My main hope is that the series wraps back around to the Michael Lucifer stuff, perhaps after the Winchester's realize that even after stopping the apocalypse the world just seemingly wants to continually end... So maybe they shouldn't have stopped it? I dunno. But bring it back and it could end up being the most epic thing ever.
