Paradox Intercative goes after game writers!
The April Fools Day 2012 Thread
There's a reference to Jeff in reddit's timeline gag in the "end of time" section under the Half-Life 3 released post.

@RoboRobb: Redheaded girl in this is kinda cute but definitely one of the better ones so far, especially the little spot at the end. As funny as this is I don't know if it'd work but at least we have our kinect game of stabbing fools in the face & other things.

Screened.com is going for timeshift joke by having giantbomb, animevice, comicvine, and tested banners at the bottom and pretending that whiskey media family still exists.
I don't think that's a joke. It's been like that since the change.
/facepalm
I checked out Blizzard as per tradition, and they got something up called "Mists of Pandaria". It's... wow. They have outdone themselves this year!
ThinkGeek has Creeper-themed Peeps (appropriately called Creeps) here.
another cruel one:

@Cubidog1
I kind of wish that IGN would spend less on April Fools pranks (bollywood halo anyone ?) and keep more actual editors on the payroll
Oh man the Starcraft Supply Depot one is great, especially this line:
Multiple endings, each influenced by your choices and color-coded for your convenience! (Further epic endings planned for post release as downloadable content.)

These will be real by the end of the month, Notch is probably already on it.

That's actually real. Their April Fool's Day prank is the Diablo 3 release date.

@WinterSnowblind: I actually found out about them when he mentioned it on Twitter, said it was 100% legit, honest(ish) Would be awesome if he did make it happen though, especially if they add some pop rocks into them.
Thinkgeek always has good stuff.

@Dogma: The BBC have a news story about the government monitoring everyone at virtually all times (which I at least assume is a joke) but nothing about the world exploding. If it is on the site, that's gold.. But it seems to be a mocked up picture.

Yeah...I had that suspicion since everyone that shows that joke never links it but just shows the picture.
Ricochet 2 is up for pre order
http://xkcd.com/ seems to have a different comic for you depending on different factors
Here's the reddit thread for it.
I think some of the jokes this year have been pretty great. Toonami's was a great revival for fans of it.

Wow that's insane! the one I got on firefox was very specific to where I live.
Rock of Ages gets a free update, "Block of Ages" and Harmonix reveals their next Rock Band project.

It's IGN but still not a bad one.
I like the cheesy 80's theme song sung by Daemon at the end.

I think Google wins, as usual. Not only do they have the 8bit maps feature, they also have multitasking, advanced search, weather control, underwater searching, they're bringing back morse code, and self-driving cars are now part of NASCAR.
I'm wondering if anyone else noticed the presence of one Mr. Smith himself talking about "tapping it in the bathroom" on the Morse Code video. FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC!

I love April Fools
I love fun fake stuff like what we're seeing in this thread. Google's fake products are always great. Think Geek's fake products that eventually get made are great. Funny games that are obviously never going to be made? Great! Games that could be real but have well written and witty copy that tells you it's not really going to happen? Also great!
Meanwhile, someone on twitter who I follow just had a giveaway and then announced that the winner's name was.... April Fools. Get it? It was a lie and he got people's hopes up for nothing! Hilarious! I didn't see it until after I got home and checked twitter, so I didn't get suckered in and pissed off, but no one finds that kind of thing funny. I've also seen an image for Rockstar's "Red Dead Retribution" which isn't trying to be clever. It's just someone lying to trick others. Maybe it was posted somewhere with some funny text, but it's getting passed around as real. People like that ruin the day.
I hate this day... The google stuff was great, blizzard was funny.. but my friends are all jerks.. I don't leave the house on this day. I sit here, read this forum, and look for funny things while keeping my doors locked. :P I have a sense of humor, but with the people I know... It's best to avoid everyone. :P
