The giant bomb like button.
Anyone else think this would be a good idea? Its like on facebook. You something someone said, you see a game, you see an idea, etc. and you click like this. and then it goes 1 person likes this. And everyone will be like ohh maybei should investigate this further. You know? When people like a review rating they like it. I browse the site wondering if Donkey Kong Country returns is a good game. I see that 500 people like that game and I also see that 1000 people like the 4 star review. Eh? Eh?
Please organize your thoughts, and no I'm not into this idea. We have other mechanisms in place to highlight good content, some of which involve forms of this method. A lot of the content on the site (such as wiki pages) are also subject to change, so a like system wouldn't be very accurate.
No. People just use it as an excuse to avoid actually commenting.
And we already have an 'agree with this review' feature.
I do miss the "+1" and "-1" on forum posts, though. Beats people posting replies that are just quotes. Also, you could hide terrible, trollish, and unhelpful posts by default.
" We had that when the site launched, and it was a disaster. There was a +1 button and a -1 button, and certain users would get bombarded with negatives whenever they posted anything. I'm glad it's gone. "A disaster? How can you say that, man?! I always loved the +/- system. It turned every thread into a warzone. Things were much more interesting back then.
" That could work. I also think that GB should have a star-only rating like Screened so you can give your 2 cents on a game without sitting down to write a review. "But doesn't forcing people to sit down and write a review provide better overall content by assuring that only fully thought out opinions make it onto the site?

Its been tried before and it didn't work. I doubt that they would want to bring it back. Personally, I don't think it really adds anything substantial enough to the website to introduce it.
It does, but I think a star only rating usually gives a pretty good consensus of people's opinions. They may not think much about why they gave it the score they gave it, but I'm not sure trying to figure out exactly why you liked or didn't like a game would change how you feel about it overall anyway." @tdk08 said:

the problem comes down to the fact that it's all opinion. knowing why a person didn't like something is more valuable than knowing that they didn't like it. for example if i give a final fantasy game 2 stars people get angry if i first give the fact that i don't like turn based combat then people know why i didn't like it and can ignore my opinion. being the internet that won't happen but it's kind of the stance of the GB guys that you read the review to understand the star rating." @nintendoeats said:

The site is called Giant_fuck_Bomb after all." @TooWalrus said:

+1
From the sounds of it, it seems like the problem last time was that there was a -1 button, if it was just a +1 then it probably wouldn't be as bad.
I really would like to see a like button on the forums. There are a bunch of posts that are good, but at the same time, I don't necessarily want to reply to them saying "that thing you posted there was a good...thing"
