http://sonicsgate.org/ This is a free-to-watch movie running at about 1 hour 59 minutes.

I want to be clear from the get-go: The title of this thread is not hyperbole. I may be a Seattlite, but I've never been much of a basketball person. This movie still made it feel like my heart was being ripped out. If you love sports, you should make it your duty to see this movie and show it to every other sports fan you know, if just to realize that even your own favorite team is not immune to what happened to the Sonics.

Sonicsgate details the move of the Seattle Supersonics from their comfy confines under the Space Needle into the middle of the plains of Oklahoma. It shares the blame among many people, culminating in at least four main villains. It features interviews from sports superstars, political figures, business men, journalists, and a number of Seattle citizens whose heart was torn out as one of the oldest teams in the NBA was taken from a passionate and loving fanbase.

I don't know if I can watch this.  I grew up watching the Sonics as a kid.  They were the first sports team I fell in love with (then the Mariners, then the Seahawks).  This was to much to handle even when it was happening, can't relive it.

It's amazingly well done. I went to cover it on one of its too theater screenings and those theaters were sold out entirely for the showings with Sonics fans. You owe it to yourself. Just be sure to boo as often as possible.

The greatest sports documentary is Hoop Dreams.  Not saying anything negative about your's, but Hoop Dreams is really freaking good.

Let's see, I'm a big fan of documentaries and basketball. Plus, I have a few hours to kill.  So this is perfect. Thanks for linking to it.

Beyond the Mat is one of the best movies i have ever seen. The part about Jake the Snake almost had me in tears it is so sad. Even if your one of those " LOL THE WRASTLING IS DUMB!! TURR URR URR HEHEHEHE" people you should still watch it, its an amazing documentary about a group of guys who literally put their life on the line year round for a thing they love with all their hearts. And if your the type that doesn't like documentaries you should still watch it because it doesn't feel like a documentary most of the time.  The whole thing is on youtube if you just search for beyond the mat.

wrestling is dumb though. and its really incredibly non-entertaining these days. and theres plenty of real fighting sports with enough drama to keep people more than entertained than wrestling. WWf/e died a long time ago in my mind. It used to be awesome with the Hulk and Savage etc but now its just lame.
Oh, and I saw Jake the Snake wrestle The Sandman at some local gym a couple years ago. They all went to chickies and petes afterwards where me and my friend met up with them two for a little bit. Needless to say, it was embarrassing those guys were a mess.

Don't be hating now :P. I'm not a big WWE person either, but that movie actually looks decent enough. Not as good as Sonicsgate, but good.

I think it's a shame that a once great NBA Franchise was diminished to the generic-ness that is now the Thunder, ala the Charlotte Bobcats. These teams are going to be lottery bound for YEARS, and no matter how good Kevin Durant is, there is no fucking way the current Thunder team has any chance for at least another five or so years. It reminds me of the old Kevin Garnett situation in Minnesota.

At least Seattle fans were dedicated. New Jersey is losing the Nets, as they will become a New York team in another year or so, and they don't seem to even care. Mind you, the move from NJ to NY isn't as drastic as Seattle to Oklahoma City, but still.

My two favorite sports related docs are The Smashing Machine -- Fighter Mark Kerr's rise and fall in the world of MMA -- and Bigger, Faster, Stronger -- A man talking about his family's struggle with steroids.

The second movie has a great sequence near the end talking about what supplements people in other professions use as performance enhancers that aren't frowned upon at all.

Okay, its fine that people are talking about other sports documentaries, but that wasn't the goal of this thread. I was just trying to shine a light on this movie. I hope that a bunch of people have watched it.
