I've always wanted to know whether certain trends and celebs from Britain are well known, or know at all in the USA. For example, did you Americans know Brighton is the gay capital of England? Or know what a Geordie is? Is Robbie Williams well known over in the states? Just random things. Hopefully others on GiantBomb share the same fascination.
The 'Is it big in your country?' thread
It's not big here at all, but personally I find Father Ted to be one of the greatest TV shows ever. Though that show is Irish and not English...I would be interested if you Brits have gotten the show Pushing Daisies? ...I haven't been to the UK in a while, but my brother lives there and I am not sure if you still get US shows a few years later...
From USA:
About Brighton being the gay captial of England: I had no idea.
About what a Geordie is: I have no idea.
About Robbie Williams: Yeah, he is pretty well known here. I don't listen to him (or that sort of music in general) and even I know... He had a few hit songs here. Some famous videos (I seem to remember him dancing around on the dance floor taking his skin off or something?)
I live in Venezuela, never in my life i've heard of a Geordie and Robbie Williams is not really big here. As far as my country goes, many things and people are well known in the rest of Latin America but i doubt they're very famous in NA or Europe.

"I don't even know what Pushing Daisies is.... if it's that obscure here I I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't over there at all."It's a show about a pie maker who wakes up the dead by touching them...i personally love it.

Hopefully others on GiantBomb share the same fascination.By Robbie Williams do you mean Robin Williams...The whole idea behind the topic, is for you to ask Americans, British people and others whether certain famous things, people or beliefs from your own country, are big or well known in other places around the world. Maybe even ask about different stereotypes, and whether they are true or not. Then someone from that country answers the question.I can see this thread being a complete disaster, fingers crossed it doesn't."
Oh yea. I'm from the US and I know about Brighton because as I previously said, my brother lives in England and is in fact gay. I think Geordie is what they call people from Newcastle and they got their own dialect...I could be very wrong on that, but that's what is popping up in my mind...not sure if it's all everyone from Newcastle of just what they call the football fans. Now I feel like watching Green Street Hooligans, but those guys were Manchester United fans if I remember correctly...I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. ...and I don't even think I know who Robbie Williams is...
"I don't even know what Pushing Daisies is.... if it's that obscure here I I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't over there at all."Well it actually did pretty well as far as the ratings go, but it's likely not something that would be of your... "taste". I would be surprised if many people here liked it at all. I personally think it's fantastic and one of the best shows to come out in a long time.
EDIT
@mracoon: I know. I remember when I first found that out I was very surprised. So many Brits can pull off an American accent perfectly.

I've seen the whole first series, enjoyed it quite a bit. I didn't know that Brighton was the gay capital of my own country though.

"
But Pushing Daisies was pretty huge over here if I remember. It got a lot of promotion. I got the DVD recently, totally love it. Very quaint Tim Burton/Roald Dahl-esque fairy tale.
I have a little secret. I play "soccer" *cringe* and I live in the U.S., though if it weren't for the fact that people wouldn't understand what I was saying I would call it by its true name: football.

Amazon.co.uk Pushing Daisies
There's a blu-ray one too for £10 more ($20-ish). Surprised it's not out over in the US yet because the series got shown a few months before it hit here.
I live in the city of Bremen, which is a north sea port in Germany, which isn't all that far away from Britain. I don't think I have ever heard of a gay capital of Brighton, I don't know what a Geordie is, and Robbie Williams is very popular in Germany.
Pushing Daisies I have heard of, but It's not on German television.. yet. Most shows end up there eventually. Dubbed.

"What the fuck is a Jaffer Cake?Jaffa Cake. Orange and chocolate "cake/biscuit":
"
I've heard of Amy MacDonald but she's not really very big to be honest.
"What the fuck is a Jaffer Cake? It's almost like a sponge-y cake type thing (i really can't describe it) in a sort of biscuit shape. The bottom side is coated in chocolate, but underneath that is some jelly-type stuff that tastes of orange. They're pretty good.
"
And i believe it's 'jaffa cake'.

"I'm from England and didn't know that about Brighton."lol you should visit there. I'm not being homophobic when I say it's the only place in the world I saw men kiss on the street. Never seen that happen anywhere else, yet.
Only in Brighton. It's an awesome place though apart from the beach. Which is a rock beach.
EDIT: Double post - WHOOPS!
@ Sir_ragnarock: I have some in my cupboard :)
