It seems like no one gives a shit about the other semi final game. But you guys are right, this will be the more important game.....
The Official FIFA World Cup 2010 discussion thread
Yo... South America is garbage.
Germany have scored a total of 4 goals three times this World Cup. Spain typically only scores 1.
I'm calling a Germany vs. Netherlands final. Bye-bye Spain! Bye-bye Netherlands! Bye-bye!

But Muller won't be present in the game against Spain. THIS THEORY IS FLAWED! =P" Yo... South America is garbage.

Since we're some days off from the semi-finals, let's all discuss about Suarez's statement about his hand ball during the game against Ghana:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jul/03/world-cup-2010-hand-god-suarez"The Hand of God now belongs to me. Mine is the real Hand Of God," said Suárez. "I made the best save of the tournament. Sometimes in training I play as a goalkeeper so it was worth it. There was no alternative but for me to do that and when they missed the penalty I thought 'It is a miracle and we are alive in the tournament'.
"Now we are in the semi-finals although I was very sad because no one likes to be sent off. The celebration afterwards was impressive, but very quiet because nobody gave us a chance but, with courage, we move forward."
If you asked me, this guy sounds like a cocky asshole.
I love Suarez' comment. Considering the position his team was in, getting the red card and breaking the rules did keep them in to fight another day and by admitting that he knew what he was doing, he's at least a step up from everyone who dives and acts like they've been assaulted when someone knocks into them. Also, when you consider how poor the refereeing has been throughout the tournament, besides for intent, a player bending the rules is no different from what else has been happening.

There's a difference between confirming what you did was what you had to do and buffing yourself.
Perhaps somebody should make it clear to him that he cheated, and that if it wasn't for him Uruguay would be out of the tournament. Furthermore, somebody should also make it clear to him that Uruguay will not beat the Netherlands, so his suspension (and probably a fine/disciplinary action) were all for nothing. FIFA better haul ass down on this guy, because that is straight up cheating, and they can't allow this kind of thing to go untempered.http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jul/03/world-cup-2010-hand-god-suarez"The Hand of God now belongs to me. EDIT: That, and there better be a handball button in FIFA 11, because there have been at least five handballs every match this tournament, even from players that are usually upstanding and who don't break the rules. It's pathetic.

Yes, I believe that divers should be similarly punished. One has to be careful though, because diving is incredibly difficult to determine. It's easy to just sit back while watching on the TV and say "that guy dived", but there's a whole bunch of things that it's easy to forget: the majority of the players are out there for over ninety minutes; cramps develop; at this stage of the tournament the pitches are coming apart; it's winter in South Africa and it's raining. Sometimes at the speeds they're traveling with their momentum it's difficult to stay on your feet when you're jostling with another player. I think there's been too much criticism about "dives", because most of them are just legitimate, innocent falls, especially in the second half of games when the players are hurting." @ZanzibarBreeze said:

This needs to be distinguished from the part where it's irritating and pathetic, when the player stays on the ground like he's been dealt a blow from a divine force. Most of the time they just need to get the hell back up and let the game continue. The rule that if a player stays down for too long they have to leave the pitch for some minutes to have the medical team look at them (and that player can't be replaced) is a great rule, because it tries to straighten out this kind of behavior. It's a detriment to your team if you're leaving them one man down for five minutes until the next break of play.
In about the middle of this thread there's a .GIF of what I think is a pretty blatant dive from Torres. For me, that kind of behavior does need to appear before a governing body and the player should be fined, just like players should be fined for blatant handballs, and just like players are fined when they get into fights. Also, players should receive more than just a one match suspension - four or five matches, or maybe more, to make it clear that this behavior is utterly unacceptable.
Also, I just want to say: Messi is garbage. I've never seen a more overrated player in my life. He doesn't do anything. "Pass the ball to Messi, pass the ball to Messi." How about you just try and score a goal? And Tevez is just a stumpy young Maradona. They are 1:1 look-a-likes. That whole team is an overrated, pathetic mess, and they deserved a loss like high heaven, which they got.
Germany: here's a team that's made of eleven men who just want to win matches. They're not a team of one or two superstars plus nine other players we found on the sidewalk.
EDIT: I have a question. On FIFA.com they have the actual score of the match and then they have a second score in brackets, like this for Germany vs. Argentina:
Argentina - Germany 0:4 (0:1)
What's the deal with the score in the brackets?
Like Zanzibar mentioned, there might be alot of diving, but not all of it is malicious. You have to remember that, unlike most ball-sports, these players can reach incredible speeds, on horrible grass for about 90 minutes. If you tried to sprint that shit even a small poke or a shirt tug could make you trip. A cramp would pretty much do it as well.
Sure, there are some players that dive intentionally. Sadly, acting has become an intergral part of football.
Refs are scared of calling out diving because they have to be consistent and start doing it to everyone, it's the same thing as all the crap that happens in the box during set pieces; the ref can see that clear as day but does nothing because it would be a massive uphill struggle to clean it up.
And ZanzibarBreeze, Messi is a great player but Germany had an answer for everything he tried to do, they shut him down.

"... and that if it wasn't for him Uruguay would be out of the tournament."I think he knows that already, why do you think he's so happy with what he did? He played to the rules and his team are still in the World Cup because of it. He didn't act maliciously or try and con anybody; he has nothing to feel ashamed of.

He should be banned from the game permanently, yo.
I've got mixed feelings about Uruguay. Sure, we've beaten Brazil and should feel unstoppable, but Uruguay didn't reach the half finals by being a lousy team. Not having their star Suarez will help out a bit.
Prediction:
NLD-URU 3-1
It still should have been offsides, he was right there next to the ball and becomes a clear distraction for the goalkeeper but, I guess it doesn't mean much now." Good job on the second goal and not touching the ball. "

More controversy.
" Thank God for that. The cheaters didn't deserve a place in the final. "Cheaters? Huh?
