Same Turtle characters aside. This actually looks okay. They got a better actor for Shredder and no Eric Sachs from the first movie is to be in sight (at least for the time being). Also its Dave Green who is directing who did Earth to Echo.... say what you will about that movie but is a better choice than Johnathan Libesman who did the first movie, Battle L.A, Wrath of the Titans, Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning
The second Michael Bay produced TMNT movie gets a trailer
So Casey Jones is in this one? I could be convinced to watch this.
Stephen Amell must like the color green.
How was the first one? I don't remember hearing many good things about it.
There's quite the fan-service in this trailer. Seems like they've ditched the brooding seriousness of the first and embraced the goofiness a bit more. I'm not saying it'll be great but at least it's looking like it's trying to be fun.
I like the Arrow but Stephen Amell is not a good actor even by CW standards. I would have gotten one of the Supernatural guys but you're never gonna top Elias Koteas.
This movie will suck but unlike the first movie they seem to fully embrace the weird 80's TMNT Cartoon/Michael Bay tropes mash-up that will make for a fun viewing when it finally comes to Netflix.
Seems kinda campy which is alright but THE STATE OF YOUR CG MATE. Doesn't seem awful though, I'll probably watch when it hits Now.TV whilst the first film remains untouched.
Seems like it will be a better movie than the first one, but that's not saying much. I watched the first one and I couldn't tell you what happens in that movie.
It looks as though they wrapped up a lot of the fan service that I want out of a movie like this...
...and stuck it inside of everything I hate about a Michael-Bay-influenced movie.
The first movie was too many stupid fart and sex jokes that were unnecessary. There were so many scenarios where physics were applied in one situation but not in the next, meaning they couldn't even keep with the consistency of the world they were building. Yes, I'm aware I just said that about a movie involving giant bipedal turtles with martial arts training and a penchant for pizza trying to fight a guy covered in blades that has a bipedal rhino and bipedal warthog, all of which are able to speak. Nonetheless, there are just moments of ridiculousness where said ridiculousness does not adhere to its own world-defining rules, and it pisses me off to no end.
Also, Tony Shalhoub as Splinter should've been awesome, but instead, he was just a total fucking asshole.
I imagine most of that same kind of shit will be present in this one as well, which will just make me continue to hate what they are doing with the movies...and loathe Nickelodeon for making this the Turtles that my nephew knows and loves. He's already been corrupted by this slog, to the point that I showed him the original cartoon series and he thought it was stupid. I mean, he's right....it IS stupid, but it at least doesn't have Michaelangelo attempting to commit bestiality with April and four turtles with literally no redeeming qualities about them.
@mike: Why in the world would you want a noir reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? I mean Batman sure. Spiderman, ok I guess. But Turtles? As much as I disliked all those Transformers movies it almost feels like Michael Bay is the perfect vehicle for what a turtle movie should be as long as they get a good writer. This doesn't look amazing but it seems to hit all the high notes from the show, at least in the trailer. There are many dark and brooding cartoons and comics out there, but Turtles were always about goofing around and having a good time while saving the day.
I like the part where they were like "in case you forgot, Megan Fox's boobs are indeed still in this movie".
But Arrow as Casey Jones is a good match I think. Not sure about the robot alien things in the sky, seems very Avengers-y or even Transformers-y
...to be aimed at kids and man-childs who will see anything tied to their nostalgia.
I won't defend Bay's movies (that are bad, which a lot of them are) but this comment is mean and unfair. I get if you don't like the same thing other people like, but it's not fair to put them down for their choices in movies or why they choose to watch them.
Kids may legitimately like them (that's fine, we're getting old and need to accept that these movies may not be aimed at us anymore and things change or whatever) but other than that I don't actually see anyone coming to bat for any of these movies on a significant scale. All I ever see/hear is people complaining about how bad they are (you could even find that I've done it too).
Again, I'm not defending Michael Bay films, but it's not fair to make accusations about the people who may enjoy these films in whatever way. I'm sure when you were younger you didn't like when people assumed things about you because of what you legitimately enjoyed- you know, when nerds were looked down on. You're basically doing the same thing with this comment. Look down on the film, that's fine, but putting down the people who watch them and may even like them for whatever reason is wrong.
Stephen Amell must like the color green.
How was the first one? I don't remember hearing many good things about it.
The worst problem with it is a problem in a lot of Bay produced or Directed films. It's boring. This can mainly be attributed to bad writing. You'd think B action films would be easy to make, but Bay often gets attached to films that make you realize it's actually not as easy as it looks when it's done well.
Nickelodeon film, Bay produced, and Tricky plays throughout the entire trailer. I guess they really don't want me to see this one either.
I don't understand the appeal of these movies except to be aimed at kids and man-childs who will see anything tied to their nostalgia.
For a moment there, I thought you were talking about the artist, not the song. This was a missed opportunity to turn a whole new generation of kids onto 90s trip-hop.
This is coming from someone who loves TMNT as you can tell by my Krang avatar:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started out as two nerds parodying Frank Miller's run of Daredevil and the gritty violence that dominated comics of the time. The fact that it has been around for like 30 years is nothing short of amazing. It's an intentionally stupid concept to begin with so I always thought taking TMNT seriously or getting mad at Michael Bay for "ruining" the franchise was just silly.
@cornbredx: WAAAAAHHHHHHH! He made a joke about manchilds! So mean! I bet he hates Bieber too, what an ASS.
I wasn't even going to bother watching it, but it showed up as a Youtube ad, so I decided to sit through it.
It...really does not look good, I'll give them some credit for actually including Bebop and Rocksteady, but everything else about it seems like the most generic Michael Bay-ass Michael Bay movie ever. Without the turtles I would barely be able to tell that apart from any other generic action movie trailer.
@bartok: TMNT is silly and ridiculous, but it was never "dumb." Not in the way that Michael Bay movies are dumb. The type of "stupid" that made that series work, and why I still have a lasting fondness for the franchise had nothing to do with car chases and explosions and awful awful sexual innuendo.
@jakob187: Have you ever tried showing him the most recent Nickelodeon cartoon? If he legitimately likes the movies it still might not do anything for him, but I think it's actually better than the old cartoon, especially by today's standards. I haven't kept up with it past the first season or so, but I think it managed to strike the best balance between silly and action since maybe ever. (On screen at least.)
I didn't watch the trailer on this thread but instead watched Jeff sing, "It's Tricky" followed by watching him eat a hot pepper with Greg Miller while reviewing Hololense. Productive day!
I think it's cool the dude who plays arrow is in this but man this looks just as bad as the first one.
Nothing lives up to the first movie from 89, i can go back and still enjoy that movie all these save the world from aliens/etc cliche michael bay plots suck. I think if they actually treated kids with some respect and made a good movie with character development like they used to, this could be the dopest thing ever.
For me, seeing Casey Jones, the Turtle Van, and Bebob and Rocksteady are a big deal from a childhood nostalgia point of view. The part where Megan Fox, seemingly, is dressed like a school girl breaks all of that because it reminds me that this is a Michael Bay movie and will probably be horrible.
Bebop & Rocksteady look really cool.
The opening inception horns were hackneyed as fuck, and the "let's CG smash up New York!" thing is really original so good job Michael Bay.
Despite all that, there are moments in the original which were goofy enough to make me smile so if there's more of that, I'm in. Megan Fox is pretty great, too.
@cornbredx: You're totally right, that was going a bit too far. But these films to play to nostalgia which gets very specific people excited. Honestly I was referring to a friend from high school who eats this stuff up. If he enjoys it that's fine but I just wish we could do better than Michael Bay produced TMNT films.
Not a TMNT fan but I kind of liked what I was seeing here. Didn't like the first movie but it wasn't nearly as bad as any of the horrendous and irredeemable Transformers movies (a franchise I am a fan of). There were moments in that first one that were pretty good, I thought.

Honestly I think whether you're an existing fan is a big factor on perception. I was never that into Transformers, so I kinda thought that first movie was alright and didn't really mind that didn't it didn't stick true to the source, since I didn't really care. But seeing what they've done with TMNT, which was my Transformers growing up, I feel like I've come to understand what made fans so upset with those Transformers movies. (Though that second movie was pretty bad under any metric.)

I was a fan of both franchises growing up and honestly that first Turtles movie wasn't that bad. I watched it yesterday after seeing the trailer for the second one to see the horror for myself and typically the internet hyperbole was in full effect. It's obviously a movie for kids so the plot is super loose, not really fleshed out but in it's defense it keeps things moving in a film that honestly doesn't need any slow reflective moments. The graphics were for the most part really good, the turtles had unique personalities that matched the cartoon, Will Arnet was pretty fun, Shredders blades actually looked really cool and Megan Fox was whatever passable - probably the most egregious change from the cartoon as I remember April O'Neal being a lot more capable. Like @sweep mentioned above, there were some genuinely funny moments mixed in as well.
I loved both Transformers and Turtles growing up but those Transformers movies were awful on every level. From the character leads, the the way the robots looked, to the asinine larger than life plotlines that involved a whole bunch of jump cuts and explosions. The Turtles movie in comparison at least tried to keep in line with what the show was about. The trailer for the second one seems to be leaning into all the good parts from the first movie and a whole lot of awesome fanservice mixed in. I mean look at it! Bebop and Rocksteady look almost exactly like their cartoon versions and not some stupid realistic interpretation like Rhino from that second Spiderman movie. The van looks like the cartoon van and shoots manhole covers!
Not saying this movie will be amazing cause the chances of that are quite slim, but it really doesn't look as mortifying as some make it out to be. It will be a fun, mindless action movie with some cool throwbacks to your childhood. I'm fine with that. Give me dumb and silly action instead of idiotic dark, moody interpretations of saturday morning cartoons any day.
..and I just wrote a whole bunch about a Michael Bay Ninja Turtles movie. Great.
@mike: It's not so much a bad idea as it's an idea that goes completely against the ethos of the source material so it's pretty weird thats what you'd like but hey man, we eat what we like and all that.
The source material of the 1980/90s cartoon or the original comics? The comics were pretty dark, at least from the few panels that I've seen. I grew up with the TV show so it was kinda weird going and seeing that they came from some black and white comic.
The first film bummed me out so much. I'm not entirely sure why, it's not like I had high hopes for it. There was nothing particularly terrible about it, other than Will Arnett. Megan Fox seemed fine, the action was OK I guess, it's just it didn't feel like the turtles. And I'm not one of those people that wants the "adult" version of the turtles the comics supposedly portray. The turtles have at their darkest been super teen friendly, even the newer IDW comics. I love the turtles, they're a huge part of me and my childhood. I really, really think they nailed the right tone with the CGI TMNT movie a few years back. What I've seen of the newer TV show is really fun also, but I never kept up with it.
This looks OK I guess. I really like the way Bebop and Rocksteady look, they totally 100% nailed it, along with the van, but the turtles just seem as hideous as they were before. I understand I'm not the audience anymore, I get it. I will no doubt be bummed out by this one too, but I'm willing to give it a chance. I'd love it if it was good.
Bebop and Rocksteady look surprisingly decent compared to how the turtles looked in the first one. I borrowed it from a friend... as long as this movie has less turtle erection jokes, it might be worth a watch on HBO Go or Netflix
