They Renamed the Large Hydron Collider. . .to "Halo"

That's comforting, they name an experimental machine that is potentially dangerous after a intergalactic dooms-day device.
No they didn't. There was a poll and the public decided on Halo, but it was completely independent from the people who run the LHC and they said "We're flattered that the RSC should take such an interest in our public image, and we find the name Halo to be apposite. However, the LHC will not be changing its name".
And the best article on this is the Telegraphs article on it. Purely because it says: "Fed up with "the contrived acronyms that plague the world of science," the RSC says" LOL!!!!
