Im from Argentina, I´ve traveled to a few countries, but never to the US, and Im finally in a position to start doing so now.

The idea is to see as much as I can in a week or two (depends on expenses), keeping it dirt cheap and fun, I have some relatives that might be willing to house me for a few days in Florida and/or Seattle.

-What would you guys say is a must-see? I have several ideas but it is always good to hear from people that have actually seen the stuff.

-How expensive is it to move around the country?

-Im assuming I can consume the most atrociously unhealthy and delicious types of food there for very small amounts of money just like I love doing here, is that correct?

I´d love to have a chance to see the sights, listen to some good music (Im into "classical" music, I love jazz and pretty much anything interesting too), maybe see some stand-up. Thanks a lot, all input is welcome!

If you can get to Florida go to Universal and go on The Hulk.

That's all you need to experience in the US!

Save your money. You'll be anally probed at the airport. Then you'll get mistaken for a Mexican and jailed. It's impossible to get around the US on the cheap, unless you meet a hillbilly truck driver that takes a liking to your "purty" mouth.

Literally none of this is true (except that travel might be expensive, as the U.S. is big.)

Try to stick to a state that interests you. The US is a big country so travel can be expensive. Might wanna rent a car just in case. Or just stay in a big city like New York or Vegas.

@FourWude: Argentinians are "whiter" than the mexicans (most of the time)

Dude go to New York ... its not dirt cheap but if you wanna see a real first world city go there , central park is amazing , you can see the statue of liberty and you have the gugenheim museum and the amazing Metropolitan Museum.

Or go to las Vegas (a lot of people I know has taken a liking in going there)

Having just came back from America around 6 weeks ago its especially hard to do! However, a great bus company to use is a company called megabus. If you book far enough in advanced you can get over night buses for 2 dollars. Problem with that is that your locked into a deadline of when to leave. I flew in from Dublin and went from NY to philly, washington. North Carolina, atlanta, New orleans, back to atlanta then florida. I have a few good hostels i could tell you about and a cheap hotel in orlando!

I recommend going to at least one buffet while you're here, a good chinese-japanese one.

Edit: Also, Burritos the size of your head, set aside a meal for one of those.

Go to Vegas and get the "Buffet of Buffets"
24 hour buffet, spread out over six buffets!

It's fucking retarded on so many levels but apparantly is good.

I would focus on an area too. Getting around the country is not cheep. If you focused on a NYC to Washington or Philly or Boston travel between those two cities isn't too bad. I would visit New York City. It has so much to see like @Aetheldod: said plus Broadway.

I'd head to the Boston/New York/DC area on the east coast or somewhere on the west coast.

You could get to those 3 major and historical cities very easily if that were something that interests you rather than going to an amusement park.

I'm from the Boston area, you can drive to NY in 4 hours or so and it's about an 8 hour drive to DC.

1 hour north from Boston you could have a Maine Lobster, 2-3 hours north you're in the White Mountains, 30 mins-an hour east you hit the beach. (except it will be fn cold here soon).

Cities, mountains, beaches, museums and monuments (ones that actually matter) can all be easily visited in 2 weeks.

Think there's a lot of culture and history packed in a small easy to reach area.

How can you pass up the historically accurate settings and happenings of Assassins Creed III and GTAIII? ; )

to see a lot you need to travel a lot because the US is so big. I'd research a specific area or state or even region to figure out what you'd like first. it costs a fortune and takes time to see the entire US.

i'd break it down like you want to see either:

a city, US mountains, beaches, monuments etc as nearly each of those could easily be 2 weeks.

It depends on what you want to see. As others have mentioned, though, getting around the U.S. is not easy since it's big. Trains are virtually nonexistent. Buses and renting a car are sometimes an option, but only really regionally. I would focus on one area, maybe around a city, and see a variety of stuff there.

Given the things you said you're interested in, you should really try to get to New York City. It has great opportunities to see jazz and classical performances as well as culture of all types. Plus you get a lot of opportunities to eat really unhealthy food (though it's unfortunately not always cheap).

Keep in mind that the US doesn't have universal health care, so taking out some insurance before you go might be a wise decision.

I would assume he would need a state driver's license in order to rent/drive in the US.

It'll be really easy to get weed in Seattle after December 6th, so there's that...

If you haven't seen a huge city, and even if you have, seeing New York city is pretty incredible. You could see a show there too literally on Broadway. Also, if you could plan it this way, you could go straight from New York to Boston for PAX East. I would personally suggest you stay to one coast though otherwise travel expenses will be through the roof. The prices for food and bed will vary on where you stay and what quality you're looking for. Staying in New York city might be hard. Staying in Boston or other smaller cities like Seattle wouldn't be that bad.

Correct about the first part, and New York does sound awesome.

I´d be very interested in that info if you still have it!

@rentfn: @Franstone: @triviaman09: @JasonR86: I start to see a very interesting plan emerge from what you guys are saying, I will definitively start looking into a schedule that includes NYC, which sounds a lot more appealing to me than Vegas. Going to PAX would be incredible too, Im getting psyched for this already.

Las Vegas or New York are good places. Go to Las Vegas and see Hoover Dam and all the casinos, or go to NY to see Gugenheim Museum, Empire State Building, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, the list is endless.
