1: Cash Cab a.k.a. Jeopardy For Idiots

Ben Bailey asks questions the average person should be able to answer and makes stupid faces into the camera as his passengers struggle to answer them.

2: Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern

UItra effete and super watchable, Andrew Zimmern travels the world and eats the planet's most vile local foods. Ironically, the only thing that has yet made him gag has been a fruit.

3: Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations

The world's biggest self-righteous New Jersey asshole travels the world with his arrogant pompadour. He constantly has this disgusted "I just smelled something sour" expression on his face because he knows his viewers are just regular "part of the problem" people. He's not a Bobby Flay type of asshole though; he's a strangely likable sort of asshole.

4: Top Gear

I had no idea I got the BBC America channel, and I had never heard of the show. I saw it in the guide a while back and watched it out of boredom. Wicked watchable show. 3 limeys bust each other's balls and go on engine-related adventures.  Really well-made, entertaining show - and this from someone who doesn't give a fuck about cars.

5: Three Sheets

Host Zane Lamprey doesn't have Zimmern-levels of personality, he's more of a wandering bro-dawg who travels the world drinking local varieties of booze. He doesn't get loaded enough 95% of the time, but it's still better than most of the other shit on. I used to watch it on a channel called MOJO, but that shit the bed. It's on the Fine Living channel now.

These are the good things on television right now.

I am still fucking pissed my cable provider dropped the channel that aired Three Sheets. That show was truly great.

If he was here right now he'd reply by making a stupid face into the camera.

I love this show, but I think the title "Jeopardy For Idiots" should be reserved for Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?.

Did you just call Bobby Flay an asshole?!

"Jeopardy for idiots" are almost exactly the same words I've used to describe Cash Cab before. I still watch it a lot though, I guess 'cause I'm an idiot.

I've seen Bizarre Foods, and meh.  He's just trying to be Mike Rowe for food lovers.

Top Gear is pro, though.

Other than that, don't know the other shows.

Seeing that list reminds me why I refuse to pay for television. You have to sift through so much garbage to get to the good stuff. Good stuff which you can find online or on DVD.

Bizarre foods and no reservations are the best on the list. Anthony Bourdain pisses me off more often than not but he manages to make an entertaining show. Andrew Zimmern is just and entertaining person to watch eat weird shit. The rest of the shows are meh.

I've only seen a couple parts of Top Gear episodes but it was hilarious. As is Mr Bourdain.

Also, anyone notice the large number of TV related threads lately? I'm not complaining (seeing as I've contributed a few) but it's interesting in that I've noticed the forums sort of go through phases of topics, and this is the latest.

I just saw an ad for a show called "Little Chocolatiers."  It's a reality show about two sassy midgets who make gourmet chocolate.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I think I might have to edit this blog in the near future.

Top Gear is an absolutely phenomenal show. I enjoy cars but I'm not super into them but the hosts (Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May) and the stuff they do make the show infinitely enjoyable. I can't wait for series 15 to start!

I saw the guy from "Cash Cab" doing stand up comedy live. He was probably the funniest guy in the whole night, and I didn't even know who the hell he was.

Cash Cab is good snooze TV. That must have the highest budget to ratings ratio on TV, ever (~$50 a question). I always was bugged how the interior lights for "Red Light Challenge" don't flash red.

I'll probably get flamed for this but The Jersey Shore is an awesome show. I don't watch it regularly but whenever i see that it's on i always watch it. Reminds me of college, however, it's kind of weird that two of the guys on the show are older than me.

Mythbusters, Top Gear is ok, The Deadliest Catch, White Collar, Burn Notice (Best show on cable period.  Besides, Bruce Cambell is in it.  Anything with Bruce is great in my book.)

I suspect that he chose that as the "ridiculously stupid question someone missed" to make himself sound intelligent.  It's Nike, by the way.  One of those things that you know if you happen to have heard it before, but by no means a measure of intelligence.  I highly doubt that it is the easiest question he's heard on the show.  I could be wrong as to his motives, but people often feign astonishment when someone misses a question that they're aware most people don't know the answer to and they happen to know.  They think that pretending some minor trivia they know is blatantly obvious makes people think that they must be really intelligent to consider it so.  It's adorable.

As for the original question, Q.I. is just about the only good show on these days.  Using a similar descriptor to the OP, Jeopardy is Q.I. for idiots.

Curb and House were both decent, but they've deteriorated quite a bit.  Dexter, Weeds, Breaking Bad, Sunny in Philadelphia, and other assorted hipster favorites just aren't good.  They're watchable for some, I suppose, but they're quite unoriginal, predictable, and dull.  I just don't see the appeal of such mediocrity.

Fuck you and your top 5 lists. It's always a bad idea and I am powerless to resist them.

On TV: Burn Notice, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Doctor Who
No longer on TV: Arrested Development, Boston Legal, Firefly, The Sopranos, Life on Mars (BBC)
Used to be best shows on TV, but now, not so much: The Office, House M.D., Supernatural, True Blood, The Simpsons
Anime: Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Lucky Star (dig the Japanese high school angle of Persona 4? This might be up your alley), higurashi no naku koro ni (Japanese high schoolers again, only now some of them are vicious murderers)

If that is true, then it implies a greater ignorance and naivete on your part than on that of someone who happened not to know a relatively minor figure in the Greek pantheon.  Though I still doubt you were genuinely surprised in the least.

I love Anthony Bourdain even though he is a pretentious artsy type that constantly brings up old movies that only "those" types of people bring up.

He's a smart dude though and is fucking rolling in the dough.

I'm replacing Bizarre Foods with Fringe. I've been on my ass for the last 10 days or so and bought a bunch of shows I was told I might like. I used to love the X Files back in the day, and Fringe is a lot like it. I flew through the 2 seasons in about a week and a half. Awesome show.

They'll probably cancel it soon, those fuckers. I don't even know who those fuckers are.
