Poll US Election: How many plan to vote AGAINST someone, rather than FOR them? (2187 votes)

I plan to vote AGAINST Hillary Clinton, because I don't want her to be the president. 4%
I plan to vote AGAINST Donald Trump, because I don't want him to be the president. 27%
I plan to vote FOR Hillary Clinton. She's a good choice, and I think she'll be a good leader. 14%
I plan to vote FOR Donald Trump. He's a good choice, and I think he'll be a good leader. 2%
I could vote, but I'm not going to. I don't care / I'm disgusted by the whole situation. 10%
I plan to write someone in. I'm angry Bernie Sanders / Ted Cruz / whoever didn't get in. 6%
I'm not able to vote in the US election, but I'd vote for Hillary Clinton 25%
I'm not able to vote in the US election, but I'd vote for Donald Trump 3%
I do plan to vote, but I'm currently undecided who to vote for 8%

This topic fascinates me, because a lot of people dislike these two, and somehow they still both got the nomination, because our political system is arguably quite broken.

Chances are strong that no matter your political affiliation, these two aren't your first choices, but just how true is that? Are your feelings closer to "well, I wanted this person instead, but that person isn't bad either" or will you be using your vote to NOT vote for someone else?

Remember when pundits immediately declared Howard Dean dead in the water cause of a silly scream at a campaign rally while he had a cold? Remember how much of a big deal that was made out to be?

Well, I mean, they weren't wrong.

He's gotta be toast, right? He is literally on tape saying that he forces himself on married women by just kissing them straight away, and that he can grab their genitals and they go along with it because he is famous and powerful. That surely has to be the end of all this nonsense, right?

I think the only possible thing that can save Trump, and please forgive me if this sounds trite because it is not intended to be, is if there is some large scale terrorist action and he convinces people he is better able to handle it than Hillary.

I'm shocked! SHOCKED I say!

Well watching Republicans squirm for the next month could be amusing at least. And you know if this is being released now there's more stuff coming.

I kinda feel a bit sorry for Americans here - both candidates are absolutely awful choices for President. One brags about sexually assaulting women and the other is apparently ok with being married to someone who cheated on her repeatedly and had to pay off a sexual harasment case. Having to pick the least shitty of two very shitty options is never ideal.

I'd probably just about come down on the side of Trump as you're marginally better off having an asshole in charge than having an incompetent doormat in charge.

I'm sure plenty of men and some women would fantasize about this, but anyone actually taking advantage of them like this is gross.

"Well, what you could also say is that, as the owner of the pageant, it's your obligation to do that," Trump said, before discussing how he got away with going backstage when the contestants were naked.

"Well, I'll tell you the funniest is that before a show, I'll go backstage and everyone's getting dressed, and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere, and I'm allowed to go in because I'm the owner of the pageant and therefore I'm inspecting it," Trump said. "You know, I'm inspecting because I want to make sure that everything is good."

"You know, the dresses. 'Is everyone okay?' You know, they're standing there with no clothes. 'Is everybody okay?' And you see these incredible looking women, and so, I sort of get away with things like that. But no, I've been very good," he added.

I just have to wonder why the Media sat on this for this long. I imagine it won't be long before his sycophants and tribalistic defenders start screaming about "Left wing Media conspiracy" . As much as I hate to admit it, it's hard not to feel that this "reveal" wasn't held back until it could do the most damage to his campaign.

I mean this is zero surprise to me, anybody who has paid any attention to Trump in the past two decades knows this sort of thing is just the tip of the Iceberg when it comes to Trump being an ass, especially about women. Did the mass media not even bother to look at their own archives? Has investigative reporting gotten that bad? I guess it must have.

Honestly they should have been out there with this stuff last year before he could do all the damage he has done to the country.

He has never ever been a worthy candidate in any respect. It's like 40%+ of America got collective amnesia about him or something.

As horrific as the media and other politicians are making this sound, this really shows how one dimensional the United States really is. You can essentially discriminate entire people of different race and faiths and get away free with it, but the moment you bring up an innocent white women into it? CANT HAVE THAT! QUICKLY ABANDON SHIP! THATS TERRIBLE! WE MIGHT ACTUALLY LOOK BAD!

This whole fiasco makes me wonder how many people are going to keep this in mind from now until the election. Trump's dirt on Hillary is not as sensational as this and as far as we know, Hillary is not going around wanting to grope women, so if anything, only more of these "locker-room" talks will probably be revealed in the future for Trump. The politicians backing out with their support seems to be just a move to cover their own asses for the future since they got a strong whiff of defeat around the corner. Will the general public really care about this in a month though?

How are the two even comparable? One of them admits to sexually assaulting women. Hillary is still married to a man who had sex with another woman (women). I fail to see how that is a character flaw on her part. It's completely up to her to determine how her relationship with her husband is handled. There are countless spouses who have been cheated on, but stayed with their husband or wife for any number of reasons. If I were one of them, I would be terribly offended that you think that would make me almost as bad as someone who admits to sexually assaulting people.

And this thread perfectly illustrates why Trump is going to win. You are all so out of the loop with the mainstream it's ridiculous. People are excited about Trump. I'm tired of the Clintons, the Bushes, and Politicians in general. We don't need another corrupt warmonger in office. All Hillary wants is power and the prize. So I'm never voting for a person who has zero empathy and gives two craps about women and minorities except for their votes.

Well, this has aged poorly.

She's been cheated on like 5 times by Bill, it's easy to see why people would call her that to be honest.

The only reason Hillary is going to win is because Trump is batshit insane.

Probably not. He's said a LOT of really dumb horrible garbage, and to be honest I don't think it's even the worst of it. There have been plenty of people willing to make excuses for him up to this point, and they sure as hell are going to keep it up all the way to election day.

Besides, I really do think next week Trump will do or say something else profoundly stupid and we'll all stop talking about this.

Edit: Holy cow this stuff about Pence appearances being canned. I guess this is what it takes for that slimelord to reel back.

The only reason Hillary is going to win is because Trump is batshit insane.

There are many different relationships, but the American mainstream pretty much only allows one type to be shown in public - if you don't fit into that mold (which the Clintons' might not), you still have to keep up appearances. Hillary Clinton's career would have been ruined if she said "we have an open relationship, so *shrug*".

The only reason Hillary is going to win is because she won a contested primary after working for 15+ years in top-level positions both elected and appointed, a longer time spent being active within the Democratic party and creating alliances, and has had the grace and tenacity to deal with decades of vile smear attempts.

In general, I'd prefer a more left-wing candidate, but Hillary Clinton is an amazingly accomplished woman and is certainly a more interesting candidate than, say, John Kerry.

@yesindeed: It's up to her to decide how her relationship with her husband is handled. It's up to the US voter to decide the extent to which they feel that conduct reflects on her suitability as a leader.

Yes a lot of people are incredibly weak / forgiving (take your pick) when it comes to their partners cheating on them repeatedly. Most of them however aren't running to be leader of a nation or commander in chief. Being weak and/or excessively forgiving may not make her a bad person, but it can certainly make her a poor choice for leader. Even her being perceived to have those virtues will be dangerous enough, let alone actually having them.

Aside from the cheating issue, I think the fact that she is apparently happy to remain married to someone who had to settle a sexual harassment case also means that there's only a certain amount of 'horrified' she really gets to be over Trump's braggadocio.

I don't disagree that Trump is a poor choice for leader, I just disagree that H Clinton is a better one.

@jimbo: On the point that she's a "doormat" and how this reflects on her ability to be a firm public figure, maybe read up on Trump's visit to Mexico. Don't get much more doormatty than that (actually the Russian stuff probably does but whatever.)

I was listening to something last night where someone pointed out that the way this always works is they hold the worst dirt they have one someone till the week before the election... If there holding back shit on Trump after this weekend I can't imagine what it is. Unless they have video of him raping someone or something.

Though one of the former show runners from the apprentice is claiming there are far worse tapes of him that exist.

I love it. Hillary has spent decades in public service, and has actual knowledge, experience and work ethic when it comes to making policy, but she got cheated on so vote for the candidate that took the initiative to cheat instead. At least he's "strong", whatever the hell that means.

I don't think Hillary being cheated on is even close to the issues a lot of people have with her. Me included, but let's face it, I'd elect the average Reddit user over Trump.

I do think her 'family values' rhetoric is weird, considering who the first man is going to be.

I think it's weird that you think that. What does the fact that her husband cheated on her say about Hillary's family values? If anything, the fact that they worked through it, and are still in what appears to be a strong marriage, says that she holds some sanctity over the institution of marriage.

Why? The first man is about to be a cheating, alleged rapist again. I think that is damning when you're campaigning for family values, let's not forget Clinton settled out of court for other cases of sexual harassment.

First observations: How did both candidates get to THOSE ANSWERS from THAT QUESTION? Also, is Donald Trump calm or just defeated? Can't tell. The sniffling is back from the start by the way.
