What am I doing wrong in The Witness

Hi

I'm trying to understand the rules of tetris puzzles in The Witness, but I can't seem to get it. For example, I'm not sure why my solution ( Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internett ) doesn't work while the correct solution ( http://imgur.com/a/KxHDW ) does work.

The edited images is my attempt to understand how these puzzles work, but clearly I'm not understanding something important. Please help me correct my understanding of these tetris puzzles.

The colours you filled in on the solution image is wrong. If you rotate the blocks one should be a L shape and one should be a backwards L.

@dolphinsupreme1: You can only rotate the blocks, you can't flip them. In your solution, you've flipped one of the L pieces into a shape that it could never naturally rotate into.

A lot of people - myself included - found it easier to do these puzzles by getting piece of card or paper cut into the shapes and arranging them on a grid.

Oh okay. So let me try to get this straight:

1) Solid images can be TRANSLATED (left, right, up, down), but cannot be rotated at an angle

2) Angled images can be TRANSLATED and ROTATED (90 deg, 180 deg)

Am I right?

So I'm wrong here ( http://imgur.com/a/X8bMt ) because I rotated the red 6-blocks when I shouldn't have, and this is right ( http://imgur.com/a/1hmnt ) because they didn't rotate the 6-blocks... right?

Yes, but watch you don't mirror the L shaped blocks. The far right image is still technically incorrect from what I remember. But ya, you have got it.
