i fell into a post-rock hole earlier this week. One of my recent finds, About Tess, has been on constant play since then.
What are you listening to duders?
This album put some serious fucking blinders on me, musically. Haven't enjoyed anything nearly as much since I discovered it; unequivocally my favorite album/band of all time. Gets better with every listen.
This is the only song by Nappy Roots that I know but dang is it catchy. It's on my summer jams playlist.
Found this song by looking through the Ed Banger youtube channel when listening to some Justice. Very dance-y.
Childish Gambino's album has been playing on my iPod non-stop this summer... well at least the first half. Sweatpants is up there with Worldstar for my favourite song on the album.
Since I've been back to getting CDs again (due to now having an older car), I've got 64 or so CDs in my car at the moment that I kinda switch around. But lately it's been a lot of Coheed And Cambria's The Afterman albums (Ascension and Descension), The Blood Brothers' Crimes and a few different Bright Eyes albums, mostly The People's Key. I just bought AFI's Sing The Sorrow, Jimmy Eat World's Futures, Angel & Airwaves' We Don't Need To Whisper and Saosin's Saosin EP, so those are getting some play.
For specific songs, Isles & Glaciers' Viola Lion and Bright Eyes' Hot Knives have been in my head a lot.
I listen to very little music. If I do, it's generally blues, funk, or west coast jazz (Brubeck, Davis, etc). When I'm not (which is most of the time), I'm listening to one of the 100+ podcasts that I'm subscribed to.
Otherwise, I do like to listen to the soundtrack to 88:88 by Makeup and Vanity set. The entire album is fantastic.
Makeup and Vanity Set - 88:88 (bandcamp)
Speaking of which, you should watch the 15m sci-fi short 88:88 on Youtube. Everything about it is so flawless:
Street Cleaner's self-titled album (bandcamp) is also fantastic.
My friend from the upper peninsula of Michigan just passed along this gem. Anyone from Michigan, Minnesota, or maybe even Canada might appreciate this musical number:
Could not be a more accurate representation of the UP of Michigan.
I'm from Southwestern Ontario, and my God, that video was laser targeted. It caught life around here *perfectly*.
Keeping it Canadian, I've been listening to the latest New Pornographers album Brill Bruisers. I'm still not entirely won over by it, since it's difficult for them to surpass the brilliance of Twin Cinemas. Currently my favourite song on the album is Champions of Red Wine--it has that Eighties keyboard going on that I love, and Neko Case on vocals, which I adore.
Can't find any new videos from the new album, but here's a taste of how awesome they can be.
Sharon van Etten stuff (seeing her next week, yay!).
Wreckage Machinery - Absence
Listening to
Julian Casablancas + The Voidz - Tyranny (Human Sadness, Dare I Care, Father Electricity , Johan von Bronx are all great)
Thom Yorke - Tomorrows Modern Boxes
Aphex Twin - Syro
I am listening to the new Xerath album on the bands band camp page and its kicking my ass. May be my favorite metal album so far this year.
2:54 on "I Hold Dominion" Holly shit
@71ranchero: ooh that album is pretty awesome! It's definitely their best album.
I've been stuck on Enforcer for the past few days.
@onemanarmyy: How's that new Aphex Twin?
I've been listening to The Ginger Runner's (Ethan Newberry's) album "Grinds". Its fantastic. I tend to like electronic music. The Ginger Runner puts out the best trail race videos on Youtube IMHO. He has always done his own composing. Here is a good example. Its my go to workout music. Tempo picks up at about 2:00.
@spraynardtatum: So i never really listened to Aphex Twin before and i just gave it a listen because people said it was good. So i thought that it had some interesting sounds, rhytms and it all sort of flowed nicely throughout the album. But i have no idea how this album stacks up next to his other work.
I keep bouncing between The Faceless and The Black Dahlia Murder, since it's all I really listen to these days.
I'm normally not a fan of the wub-wub sounding shit, but since it's minimal, I can deal with it. I don't quite remember how I stumbled upon this gem of an album. It's a damn fine listen, nonetheless!
New Datsuns album is out & I just managed to get tickets to see them in Auckland when I head back in December.
@71ranchero: Had not heard of these guys before, but man, I am really liking this so far.
Right now an episode of Seinfeld to kill time until Jeopardy. Musically a lot of classic rock from the 70's and 80's. 80's are really underrated when it comes to rock.
The new DFA 1979 album is super rad, loving it so far. Can't believe it's been ten years since the last.
Also Queens of the Stone Age. Always Queens of the Stone Age
For the past few weeks I've been rediscovering my Swedish 80's industrial, synthpop and post-punk collection (edited to links instead of embeds).

Lately been listening to a lot of out there stuff like some of Lindsay Lowend's new work, Tetris Finger's new album, or anything Ramzoid has put out
I know it's only been four years, but I'm convinced this one's with me for the long haul.
Most of the album's comin' too.
Lately I've also just disovered and have been in a state of perpetual overwhelment(sic) by Pac-Man CE DX's Reentrance.
I don't listen to modern music really as I think it's all balls :) Saying that I've always been a massive fan of the Pet Shop Boys so I have their Electric Album in the car's CD player. Fantastic album, especially if you like electronic stuff. Most of the time I listen to stuff from the 80's or early 90's.
I'm also a bit of a vinyl nut. I just love the sound.
@mithrilmojo: Holy crap, I'd like to thank you for bringing the fact that the New Pornographers just released an album to my attention. I'll be sure to pick that up sometime this week.

As for what I've been listening to recently, it's kind of all over the place.
I started getting into some Dance Gavin Dance after my friend showed me Carl Barker and I really dug the fun and funky guitar and bass tracks.
I've been listening to Stevie Wonder's Do I Do the last few weeks just trying to get the bass line down and man, that chorus is tough.
At the recommendation of my cousin I checked out Snarky Puppy and they're pretty god damn great.
Babylon by bus - Bob marley
Survival - Bob marley
Whatever peole say i am
thats what im not - Arctic monkeys
Are you experienced - Jimi hendrix
These are my favourite albums at the moment not necessarily in that order. I'm probably showing my age but what the heck when it's good you just gotta tell someone.
