Poll What do you think about Funko figures? (467 votes)

I like 'em. 11%
Inoffensive. 46%
I hate 'em. 43%

They don't bother me really. I think I get the appeal though I've never owned one or see myself ever buying one.

I'm indifferent, though I will admit the Funko Dead Yamcha one I saw was pretty good.

I've got a few on my desk in front of me right now: Boba Fett, The Punisher, Rogue One Death Trooper, and Jack Burton. I also have a Han Solo Cantina Fight in the other room and a Fallout t51b power armor on the way from Amazon.
I think I'm done now. I don't consider myself a collector, but if I see one I like I buy it.

It makes fan wank accessible to people where it never would have been before. What's to hate?

If you ever tried to buy a shitty tiny statue of a property before the advent of Funko you'll know what I'm talking about. (How could they sell that utter GARBAGE for $150!?!?) Funko levels the playing field and much of the shitty branded garbage that used to retail for $50 is just gone.

Like i get that people who are a huge fan of a certain character want the best looking statue and are willing to pay money for that. However, there are plenty of people that do like characters and want a figurine to have around them , but are not willing to spend the big bucks for that. Funkopop seems to satisfy that need. If you're shopping for a bunch of gifts, maybe a 100$ figurine doesn't make much sense, but a 25$ funko fits in your price range. That will do the job and i bet 95% of people would be glad to accept that gift and have it around.

There are a few my gf and I liked enough to buy. Claptrap, old school Batman from tv show, Deadpool, GNR, and R2D2. I would buy Giantbomb Funkos if they made them because it would make me laugh.

I like that they do figures of rather obscure things but I've yet to actually buy any of them.

They're mostly inoffensive, but it kinda bums me out that they're all so generic because when they do make more uniquely-designed ones they look so much better. I kinda want the Rathalos figure they did because it's got a distinct design that actually captures the thing it's supposed to be.

They are okay, I know there are people who go ape shit on collecting them. I have some mainly from shows I like or in a couple cases were given to me thanks to what ever loot box thing i was subscribed to. My wife has a bunch (most of them I got her) of horror movie monsters she likes that sit on top of our DVD selves.

It was funny when I got Scrooge McDuck from a Gamestop. The clerk was trying to get me to buy one of those plastic cases to keep the box looking good. I shocked them by saying I wasnt keeping it in the box, that it was going to sit on my shelf. The clerk looked like I told him I was going to melt it down for what ever.

I'm just picky with figures and it bothers me a bit that funko pops are such a huge part of the market. But yeah they aren't that bad I guess. I wouldn't buy one personally, but whatever floats your boat.

My boyfriend has some Mass Effect ones, which I like. I was surprised to learn they were from Funko, since they just look like chibi versions of two characters (I think it's Rex and Garrus, haven't played ME in quite some time). I think they're really lazy, not incompetent as some people like to joke. They will never do a simple human character look good because they have their own shitty style, but when characters actually look unique and can't be represented by just swapping the hairstyle and clothes, they can actually make something that looks pretty decent.

I voted inoffensive because 'irrelevant" was not a choice. Like any sort of art (are they art? lets just call it art) sometimes it speaks to you and sometimes it doesn't - funko does not speak to me.

Honestly it's just a chibi-ish art style, which means it's definitely not going to work for 95% of characters they make 'em for but that 5% that works for the style works PRETTY well.

Netflix forced me to watch the Funko documentary and it didn't sway me either way. (I wouldn't recommend it tbh. Not half as interesting as the worst Toys That Made Us).

I think their only value comes from variety and roster depth. I like looking at them, even though the ones I own definitely go in a bag with the rest of them. They are so fucking overexposed, but there's something hilarious about a cling-film wrapped Laura Palmer sitting at the front of a family toy store.

Depends on which ones. Some are literally just a guy in shirt and hairdo that looks kinda like the guy character you like. Others are a little more complex and interesting. I don't mind them either way. Having one or two for your absolute favorite media is understandable. I don't quite understand the desire to collect them though. I suspect we'll see many garage sales with pops that cant be sold in the near future.

Honestly, the ones based off of characters wearing helmets I find ok. It's the ones based off human characters/people that I think look bad. The Funko style really makes human faces look bland and unappealing.

I don't like them. Don't think they are inoffensive but don't hate them either.

They seem cheap and bland. I don't think they are inoffensive cause they create a low common denomination entry point and a bubble. It will burst at some point and then a lot of people will be in a position where they remember funko pops about that thing they spend too much money on for reasons unknown ( to them). Kinda like trolls, or furbys.

Tho looking at that rathalos here in this thread made me think twice about my own position of the subject. If that's where they are going, then maybe they will make an effort to not be the classic trash trend toy thing of its day.

They're awful. It's no surprise the ones that actually look decent are the ones that look nothing like a funkopop.

I have a few of characters I like. Green Lantern, Raven from Teen Titans, Batman Beyond. They're fun. I don't get the whole collecting all of them thing though.

One of my ex's little sister gave me Fin and Jake figures from Adventure Time for Christmas one year, because my partner and I were really into the show. I don't think I'd buy them myself, because I'm not much of a collector, but I thought the art style of the cartoon lent itself well to the figures and the sentiment was very sweet. I still have them, they're cool.

They should be made illegal and anyone who buys them should be put in jail.

In all seriousness, people can waste their money all they want. It just saddens me that people will spend so much money on these cheap looking toys. I'm far from a snob when it comes to figures but if people were smarter and actually wanted nice figures they could spend a little more money and get something that looks 1000 times better that doesn't look like cheap plastic. That really is my problem, that there are shills out there that will buy this garbage when there are much better choices out there when it comes to this kind of stuff.
