What is a really good book to movie adaption that you've seen?

I feel that The Road is a really good example of these kinds of movies.

The Shining.
The ending is very different, but the movie is excelent notherthanless.

Lord of the rings is the easy answer. 
 
I am legend is pretty good too. I guess when you fuck up the first two movie adaptations, you're bound to get the third one right. Third time is a charm as they say.

I wouldn't say it's the best book-to-movie adaptation but i find 'The Lord of the Flies' by William Golding fairly okay. 
Both the 1963 and the more gruesome 1990 flick.

As far as I can recall "The Exorcist" made a pretty seamless translation from book to movie.

Some children's books make the transition very well.  Mary Poppins, The Black Stallion, The Incredible Journey and Never Cry Wolf are excellent books and movies in my opinion.
