And you can't say world war 2 or world war 1.
What is the greatest war of all time?
I personally liked the Third Whopper War between my kingdom and that of the Burger King. Why? Well, I personally killed the Burger Prince. Sure, it led into another war two years later, and about nine civil wars over the next 100 years, but still, that one moment was worth it.
Was the Franco-Prussian War the one where Alsace-Lorraine was divided? If so, that gets my vote. Or, the Russo-Japanese War. Actually, when you stop and think, there's been a lot of underrated conflicts.
Which one? if it ends with the phrase "Looks like he didn't have it his way", then I killed that soldier and wrote the message in his own blood. I did that with about twelve soldiers before I got bored.
It's called the United Lunar Video Game Kingdom, although it's odd that he was even carrying a book and pen. I order all my soldiers to rush into battle naked, since it's been proven that a military force will surrender if they see a force of at least 300 naked men running towards them.
" @HandsomeDead said:Consider Giuseppe Garibaldi storming Sicily with 800 men that had a gun each but no bullets. Hardly anyone knows about that. Definitely my idea of underrated.Jesus fucking christ. Underrated? How the fuck can you underrate a war? Is there like some magazine that reviews wars? Did WWII get 5 stars? Fuck. "" there's been a lot of underrated conflicts. "
Seriously though, had I known this thread was going to be full of slack jawed faggots, i'd have just said any battle where Americans die and watch the fallout.
The Danish viking war against england in the year 1000-1066. Sadly the outcome was not in our favor, Christianity was forced upon us, and people who didn't accept where killed, colonies that settled in England where slaughtered in the most cowardly manner. On a Sunday where people where bathing and relaxing, men, women and children where taken by surprise. No one was spared.
"War. War never changes. Haven't you learned anything? "
According to Solid Snake, "War has changed".
" @EVO said:I see what you are saying, but I think underrated is not a good term to use." @HandsomeDead said:Consider Giuseppe Garibaldi storming Sicily with 800 men that had a gun each but no bullets. " And you can't say world war 2 or world war 1. "Yeah, WWI and WWII are overrated. Fuck everyone who died in those wars, they weren't as awesome as THE WAR OF THE ROSES.
I'm confused, I really hope you don't mean great in terms of likability and instead scale. But then why would you tell us not to say WWI and WWII? What the hell is your point?
This thread scares me.
I don't think you people know what the word 'great' means. In this context, it doesn't mean "awesome," it means significant or important. I can't believe the immaturity in this thread. It's ridiculous. You're getting so offended over a legitimate question that isn't even in the least controversial. If you people weren't video game fans, you'd be the people getting offended over the Africans in RE5. It's the exact same mentality, just bent at a different angle.
jesus christ. The intellectual immaturity is astounding.
and yes, there can be such thing as an 'underrated war.' a war that has been pased up and is rarely mentioned despite what it's effects throughout history may have been.
" No war is great. Except console wars. But the irish revolution was great and so was the cold war. "Yeah, people living in fear of being nuked to a literal Armageddon is so damn cool!
Are you mad?
" @MrSnow said:It produced Rocky IV, Top Gun and Red Dawn. It's cool as ice." No war is great. Except console wars. But the irish revolution was great and so was the cold war. "Yeah, people living in fear of being nuked to a literal Armageddon is so damn cool! Are you mad? "
What definition of great are you referring to? I think World War 2 was pretty massive and killed more people than any other conflict to the best of my knowledge.
I don't think anyone in their right mind would endorse war. And even though I detest the idea of armed conflict, I also spend a lot of time studying the various wars that have occurred between nations in history. Suffice to say, some wars are more interesting than others. I find the Spanish Civil War in the '30s to be of particular interest.
Really though just because war is bad doesn't mean you should ignore the fact that wars happen. They happen a lot. And people die. Sometimes it can be a good thing in terms of social change and progress. Other times it is a completely awful thing that does nothing but destroy. While I completely understand and agree with having an anti-war sentiment it does nothing to help the situation when you can not view a war objectively or via its own merits.
So yes, it is alright to use terms such as 'underrated' and 'greatest' when it comes to this topic and having a knee-jerk reaction to the subject does nothing to further the understanding of it. Just like martial arts, some of us study wars so we know better on how to avoid having them in the future. After all, there is a lot more to war than actual combat. If anything, if you read some Sun Tzu, combat is usually the last thing at play in any conflict. It's pretty interesting all around - I suggest some of you open your minds to it. Burying your head in the sand solves nothing.
