Mine isAguirre, the Wrath of God, directed by Werner Herzog and starring Klaus Kinski. Brilliant. Its a German film if you weren't sure.

State the country the movie comes from if at all possible.

Oldboy, or Kung Fu Hustle.  I've been watching a lot of Asian movies lately.  But if Hot Fuzz counts as foreign than that movie for sure.

Sorry to exclude because there's some great British and Australian films out there, but what I'm really looking for and asking you guys for is stuff not filmed in English. This is in reference to Hot Fuzz.

Hot Fuzz is considered foreign? I guess in region but not in language. If so, I have that as my vote.

Whilst I short-listed:

Metropolis (1927) from Germany.  Still looks brilliant and I saw it on the big screen for it's reconstruction a few years back.  The special effects (the city) are truly wonderful, especially for 1927.  Just sad that facism destroyed a brilliant German film industry.
Allegro non troppo (1977)  from Italy.  It is an adult Fantasia and totally wonderful.  The animation Ravel's Bolero is worth it alone.
El laberinto del fauno (2006) from Spain.  That is Pan's Labyrinth.  I watched it with my children last week and we all loved it.  The blending of the fantasy with the shocking violence was perfect.

However, my all-time favourite foreign film is:
This is a French silent movie by acclaimed director Jean Cocteau.  It translates to Beauty & the Beast - yes, that one.  It is in B&W and atmospherically, utterly sublime.  If you ever get the opportunity to see it - do so.

I can't really decide. There are a lot that i really love, but perhaps Kikujiro.
I love films by Kitano and Zhang Yimou. There's also 5 Centimeters Per Second and all the Miyazaki stuff if anime is included.

The Legend of Drunken Master and Lady Snowblood.

I guess if we're counting it as foreign, Shaun of the Dead as well.

Couple more I thought I'd mention: Let The Right One In, Perspolis, Seven Samurai, M, Amarcord, La Dolce Vita. I'm also a sucker for Hong Kong action flicks like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and so on.

La Cité Des Enfants Perdus, from France. The English title's The City of Lost Children. Truly a wonderful movie, full of steampunk brass gadgetry, strange concepts, alchemy, and a really cool story.
