Men of Honor. I thought it was gonna be boring, but I watched it last night and it was amazing! I even went through and watched the deleted scenes.
What movie turned out to be good when you thought it would be bad
I cant believe I'm saying this but: Meet the Spartans....
I actually enjoyed this Movie.
-- God Bless.
Usually, I don't see movies I expect will be bad. When I saw Speed Racer and Get Smart, I thought they'd be good and turned out even better than I had anticipated. However, two movies in recent memory surprised me by being decent when I fully expected them to be mediocre at best.
I had the lowest of expectations for Dead or Alive: the Movie, but came away feeling pretty good as the end credits rolled. It's not great cinema and maybe because I didn't expect much to begin with, I really had fun with it. I enjoyed all the characters, the silly story, the homage to volleyball and wild action scenes. The actresses are not the realistic embodiment of the video game characters, no woman outside the porn industry is, but they did a good enough job with the roles to keep me watching and entertained.
The second movie that I figured would be crap but watched anyway because I was in the mood for crap at the time is You Don't Mess With the Zohan. Since Little Nicky, most Adam Sandler movies haven't lived up to his previous work, and I figured this movie would be more of the boring, unfunny crap that he's been doing for a while. But, I figured "meh" maybe it will have one or two chuckles. And, I was happily surprised to find myself laughing out loud over and over at the borderline offensive material. It was refreshingly lewd. It made me laugh. I'd like to see it again someday (unedited for TV, of course).
Twilight. I didn't really expect to hate it, because I wasn't about to let all the silly bashing of it get to me, but given the age of the majority of the cast, I wasn't expecting any solid acting or much else really.
"Men of Honor. I thought it was gonna be boring, but I watched it last night and it was amazing! I even went through and watched the deleted scenes. That was a good flick,I think it was Cuba's best performance.Great cast too. Robert Deniro played a racist, alcoholic asshole that was on top of the world, then lost everything. And Cuba Gooding Jr played a black guy that was the hero of the movie- he had nothing, then got everything, then lost it, then got it back."
Angels and Demons. Loved the book but the trailers looked awful. The movie turned out alright and I was quite suprised.
" Push. Thought it was gonna be crap but actually turned out to be pretty good. "I'm with nefarious on this one. Not only did I think it was going to be just ok but a group of people walked out of the previous showing from the one I was about to watch talking about how lame and predictable it all was. Hello, the girl could draw abstract sketches of the future.
taken, miracle at st anna, tigerland, there will be blood, observe and report.
i went into all of them thinking that they all would suck. now i love them. and with there will be blood, i actually took out that movie because i thought it was terrible, but gave it another chance.
The Beauty and the Beast, I didn't think I'd like it since I never enjoyed the other Disney "princess" movies (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid) but it turned out to be one of my favorite films of all time.
The first Transformers movie. I went to it just for the hell of it, thought at best it would be a nice action movie and at worst it would be amusingly bad. It turned out that it quickly became my favourite movie of all time. I can't say the same for the sequel... but only because I knew going in that it was going to be awesome. :)
Oh, and for the record, I agree with The Lord up there, Drag me to Hell sucked donkey balls. I hate 'pointless' horror movies.

Star Trek is probably the one that surprised me the most. It wasn't until Rotten Tomatoes started tallying up the reviews a few weeks before release that I actually started to consider that it could be good. I mean, I thought the trailer looked all right enough, but some part of me just remained decidedly dejected about whether or not the movie could succeed in the modern space.
