What Other Podcasts Should I Listen To?
I am a fan of;
The Giant Bombcast ... Obviously
Behind the Screened Door ... Over at Screened.com
The Joystiq Podcast at Joystiq.com an awesome gaming podcast every week with Chris, Luddy and Justin.
My Brother My Brother and Me Podcast spawned from the Brothers McElroy, a great/terrible advice show at mbmbam.com
Rebel FM ... spawned from 1upFM which was a show to highlight the newer and younger editors over at 1up in its hayday in like 2006. Has Anthony Gallagos, Tyler Barber and Arthur Gies, and then Matt is usual guest. Found at eat-sleep-game.com
8-4 Play ... they are an older crew of gamers, but have a great look at the industry if you have been gaming since the 8-bit days or earlier. They tend to have the same sensibilities as me. Found at 1up's podcast site.
The Geekbox ... former 1upers again. Ryan Scott hosts this show along with his buddy Ryan Higgins, Karen Chu, and with Fitch leaving, Alice Liang has kind of become a regular.
... those are my usuals.
If you're looking for a non-gaming podcast the best one in the last year that I've subscribed to is the Tolkien Professor. If you enjoy Lord of the Rings, the host (a college professor) goes through each chapter of the The Hobbit, Silmarillon, and LoTR. Highly insightful and has really given me a much greater respect for Tolkien. Was on Apple's podcasts of the year last year. It's up to 62 episodes now.
The non-entertainment stuff I listen to are probably completely irrelevant to you so here are some I haven't seen anyone post yet.
Matt Berry rarely updates, hilarious dude though.
The Agony Column if you're into books. Probably too boring for most people.
Car Talk I know the Bombcast guys are fans so it could be relevant to your interest.
Morning Radio Game journos talk about Japan games etc.
Jordan, Jesse, GO! -&- The Sound of Young America Really entertaining, that's all I can say.
Escape Pod Dramatic readings of Sci-Fi short stories and novels.
Dinner Party Download Interesting things to make you a more interesting person in conversations.
" "Stuff You Should Know" is pretty fun and interesting.A Life Well Wasted is one of the best programs I have ever run across, in any medium. Its too bad they don't do more episodes.
Related to gaming, I'd recommend " Irrational behavior", "A Life Well Wasted" and "Weekend Confirmed". "
Anything from the NPR files.
Since you are in law school, I would get the Supreme Court from PBS NewsHour Podcast. It isn't very deep, but good for staying appraised of the issues.
Another good one is the Nolo Podcast, they take a legal area, give a brief summary, and then a nice case study. It is good for practical applications of law school.
The Joe Rogan Experience
The Fanboys
Smodcast
Tell 'Em Steve Dave
Babble On
I would have recommended Weekend Confirmed, but there's just something about Garnett Lee that kinda get's grating
Second Funniest Podcast
The History of Rome - I find it fascinating at least
Or just go to iTunes and hit the top audio podcasts and try them out.
if you're a fan of hip-hop i've been digging the Hype Men podcast. three jewish white kids talk about hip-hop with a little comedy spin. different guest each week, past guests have been Jean Grae, Just Blaze, Pete Rosenberg, 88-keys (last week). and for non-industry people they've had comedians Jake Fogelnest and Martin Starr and others. check it out.
Podcasts I recommend:
The Drunk Tank- It's not specifically video games although it does include them it pretty much is about whatever they want to talk about. From flying, politics, movies, tv shows, and of course games.
Feedback: it's one of the more intelligent video game video podcasts but that requires that you like Adam Sessler and apparently not everyone does.
The Tolkien Professor and The H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast they require that you enjoy H.P. and Tolkien though.
Instead of podcasts find some audio books for novels you always wanted to read but never find the time to get around to reading. They usually have an mp3 format you can find online somewhere.
Most of the IGN podcasts are decent. Their TV podcast is especially good
Rebel FM is awesome, but it does get edgy when they start with the relationship letters.
If you can stand Ryan Scott's grating nerd voice then listen to the Geekbox.
I pretty much only listen to gaming podcasts, and podcasts that can make me laugh...
CAGCast
Comedy Death Ray
Doug Loves Movies
Drunk Tank
Giant Bombcast
Joystiq
Mega 64
MBMBAM
The Nerdist
Never Not Funny
Pod F. Tompkast
Rebel FM
Sklarbro Country

" @SethPhotopoulos: They need to get on it, Spill is the best movie site for reviews and their daily podcast shows are hilarious to no end. Fucking love Co-Host, best robot mankind ever made.See....Dan has no emotion AND is a complete moron. Alex and Jeff are cool.
@ZanzibarBreeze: I'm friends with David from CAG, so I like hearing his points, and GameSpot cause I don't have a problem with 'em and been listening since day one. I will try the other two, and hold you do it.
@TheSilentTruth: I watch Diggnation Live when I can, or just the stream...and I hate the Totally Rad Show...Alex is an idiot. >.>
@McGhee_the_Insomniac: Alex Jones has a podcast...well then, I shall have to check that out. "
Talkradar - Funny. They talk about cool stuff and drop into jokes constantly.
Talkradar UK - How offensive is this? This is what I think British comedy is like. They're soft spoken and they make a goof on something they're talking about. Matt Cundy is pretty funny.
Epic Battle Cry - I like their take on games and as much as I don't want to admit, I'm always expecting Keyser's puns.
Invisible Walls - I like Gametrailers and they're okay.
Sidescrollers - It's weird, but I listen to them because they're always cheerful.
" Instead of podcasts find some audio books for novels you always wanted to read but never find the time to get around to reading. They usually have an mp3 format you can find online somewhere. "That would be librivox.org.
Anything on the Smodcast network is great. I like the IGN podcasts as well. Thinkcast is alright too, but i might be biased because i host it...
