I loved the Goosebumps books right when they came out. Say cheese and Die and One Day at Horror Land were my favorites.

I used to love all the books by Roald Dahl, they were all really creepy, and dealt with pretty big issues of loneliness and abandonment (similar to Dickens), and yet and the same time were disgusting and hilarious. His books include "Charlie and the chocolate factory" "Fantastic Mr Fox", "Matilda", "The witches","The BFG", " Danny the champion of the world", "The Twits" (possible my favorite), "Esio trot", "Revolting Rhymes", and many more. The fact that the first six books on this list were made into motion pictures with Charlie and the chocolate factory being made twice speaks for itself.

In my opinion he's the greatest children's author who ever lived.

yeah dude I read all of them.  There was another one, I don't remember the name,  but he gets rescued and doesn't like living with people anymore so he goes back to the wild.  I remember that one sucked though.

When I was real young I was way into Where the Wild Things Are and Doctor Suess books especially The Lorax. When I got a little older I read a lot of Goosebumps and junk like that. But I first read Magician when I was in the 6th grade or something like that on a recommendation of a friend then my English teacher at the time said I would be into Wheel of Time series and he wasn't wrong. Ever since then I have been way into fantasy novels and sci-fi to a lesser extent. So Magician would be my favorite childhood novel I have read it many times and I usually give it a re-read once a year or so because at this point I would rather re-read Feist's novels pre Shards of a Broken Crown which is where they started to go wrong for me.

I actually had a favorite series: Animorphs. read that series many times through. That lead to my interest in Transformers, which lead to my interest in Gundam Wing, which lead to my interest in anime.

Oh man, If you weren't reading Animorphs as a kid you weren't cool haha

I remember the Tobias kid getting stuck in hawk form being an intense read. Oh and the cool little animations you could do by flipping the corners.

Heh heh, this kid gets it. Back in the day, I hated Visser 3(?) more than anything
