We've all had this happen to us. We gather our change from our pockets, put it into the machine and realize it is broken leaving us a couple dollars poorer. So what was the worst case of this for you? For me my phone was dead so I couldn't make a call for my brother to pick me up at the stop I usually get off at. I knew there was a pay phone a couple stops before so I decided to stop there and make my brother drive the extra 10 minutes. I put my money in the phone and it didn't work... I had to walk home from that stop, another bus wasn't coming, which took me about an hour and a half.
What's the worst time a machine ate your money?
Wow, your story seems a lot worse than mine. I had my money eaten by a vending machine and starved for the next 2 hours.
" i lost a dollar from a vending soda machine. another time in college i bought a soda and the machine came out with two sodas. i was like NICE. "Best. Feeling. Ever.
Not so much an ate my money thing, but when I went on the student for a day trip to the college I was going to go to the tour ended like 4 hours earlier then they said it would. So I went to a payphone to call my dad to come pick me up, but because we had to drive 4 hours to get to the school his cellphone was considered long distance and it was going to cost me something like $10 in change to call him from the payphone. I was something like $2 short since the phone wouldn't take loonies or toonies.
I ended up sitting on a bench re-reading every pamphlet they gave me about a dozen times since I had to wait there for 4-5 hours for my dad to come pick me up.
The following year when I was at that school though, they had this one vending machine that was like playing roulette. Half the time it would eat your money, but if you bought something that was in a certain spindle two things would always fall out instead of one, because the guy who stocked it always put them in the wrong rung.
When I went to get a set of passport photos once, it was £6 for 6. So I put in the pound coin which it accepted and a £5 note, which it just ate, but then because I didn't have another £5 on me to make up the money, I had to cancel the order, then it didn't even give me my pound back...that was such a shit moment.
My friend once tried to take £50 out of a cash machine/ATM, it returned his card and rolled out the money. As he was putting his card into his wallet, the cash machine rolled the money back inside and closed the flap. Despite making several complaints to his own bank and the bank that ran the cash machine, he never saw that money again.
A few hours before I had to go to work one day I washed my wallet in the washer machine that had like $200 worth of cash in it.

" i lost a dollar from a vending soda machine. another time in college i bought a soda and the machine came out with two sodas. i was like NICE. "There was a broken vending machine in my High School that always did stuff like that. More often than not, it gave me twice as much change back and two, sometimes three drinks. The day they carted it away, a single tear rolled down my cheek and into my free bottle of Pepsi.
I put a dollar into a vending machine to get some M&Ms but the bag got stuck so I hit the vending machine a couple of times for it to fall down but it wouldn't. So I put in another dollar hoping the bag in the back would push the stuck bag and both would fall but guess what, now there were two stuck bags. I was pretty pissed around this time because class was about to start and I wanted my M&Ms. So I tried doing whatever I could to get these bags out, but had no luck. I went to class and after it was over went back to the vending machine to check if the bags were still stuck and guess what I saw, the bags weren't there. I just laughed and went on with my day.

Once on a night out i tried to get out my last £20, the machine spat out my card, but no money came out... i checked my balance and £20 had been removed.
The machine didnt eat my money IT STOLE IT!
" Did anyone else read the title as "What's the worst a time machine ate your money?" and get really depressed thinking they'd been missing out on something wonderful? "Also, I got three different sodas from a dollar once. No idea how it just happened.
" @MattyFTM said:I was with a friend when she withdrew $40 at an ATM. The machine only gave her 1 $20 bill. Her receipt indicated that she'd withdrawn $40 and that's how much had been taken out of her account. It was on a Friday night and she called her bank immediately. On Monday or Tuesday they put that missing $20 back after auditing the machine." My friend once tried to take £50 out of a cash machine/ATM, it returned his card and rolled out the money. When I was like, 7 or 8 I think, my Mom let me go to the theatre with just some of my friends and no parents. I had 50 cents to use the pay phone after to call and get picked up, but it ate the money. I spent the next two hours sitting in the front of the theatre terrified until my parents came by to get me, wondering why I hadn't called.
Years ago there's a fancy drink vending machine at a convention I attended. Some guy in front of me got a drink and as it was falling down to the chute the bottle got stuck between the protective glass and something else. My drink of choice happened to be above that stuck drink so I bought it and when it fell it nudged his driink but didn't fall down. I got stubborn so I bought another drink and finally knocked it loose. I ended up buying two drinks but it was worth the entertainment and future cool story bro.
I've been both screwed and blessed with vending machine malfunctions to even things out or me actually having come out ahead (touch wood).
