I'm one of the few (straight) guys out there that seems to not only enjoy romantic films, but actively seeks them out as well. I watch a lot of rom-com anime also, and if a narrative is lacking a good love story, it always seems incomplete to me.
Really liked Definitely Maybe and Love Actually (a.k.a. the funny & actually entertaining version of He's Just Not That Into You). But my favorite is also the best Kevin Smith movie: Chasing Amy. Fantastic film.
The most romantic love story every comited to film: Die Hard.
I'm serious, It's the story of a man so in love with a woman he would to anything to get her back even if it means gunning through a bunch of guys that have kidnapped her. He flew thousand of miles to be with her for Christmas even though he's scared of flying, awwww. And he does all this even though she wants a divorce and even uses her old name. But more than that he walks barefoot across broken glass for that woman, in no romantic movie has anyone loved a person enough to do that.
And the best part is, he didn't need to either, there was a getaway limo waiting for him in the garage with a driver no-one knew was there, the bad guys didn't know he was there, and you can be Nakatomi Corp has a pretty high payout for Terrorism in their employee's life insurance.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Chungking Express and ESPECIALLY Amelie. Special note should be made of Amelie as it works particularly well on girls who are not yet your lover. Serious. Unfortunately, virtually every girl has already seen it so it probably isn't as effective as it was back when it first came out. Bummer.
