So,you guys,im gonna get a dog,but i have not decided which type.
Im thinking about a Tibetan Mastiff, but i know they're might be better and cooler dogs out there.
Helpz?
Which dog should i get?
Get a rescue dog. Pure breds are more expensive, and more prone to debilitating hereditary diseases. Plus, rescue dogs need a home more than a puppy from a breeder's litter, which will always get sold on.
GET A RUSSIAN SAMOYED!!!
best.fucking.dog.ever
seriously, its gonna be your best friend, no matter what, and is VERY friendly. also its called the "Talking dog" because it talks so much, and it is hilarious,

You will have to, just like with any other husky related breeds and races, to establish yourself as the dominant one and take control, as it is a pack dog. But it just means you will have to tell him what to do once in a while and give him a light slap over the snout if he disagrees with you. BUT YOU MUST NEVER hit him or anything other than a light slap on the snout. Make him respect you, not fear you. But they are VERY robust dogs. I mean, my dog runs into something all the god damn time, and he never noticeses anything. Also i hurts like fuck if he runs into me and he just stares at me when im cursing because he hit me in the knee or something.
I would never pick a dog based on breed.
A dog is should be a friend first and foremost, so when looking for an animal find one that feels right for you.
Firstly, URGH CATS ARE SHIT.
Second, if I were you, I wouldn't pick a breed and go looking for one of those. Most likely, I'd just go and look at some give away mongrels. Do a little checking up on temperament of the breeds first as well as any health problems common to the breeds, ie lots of big dogs have hip problems. Do your research, but really, just try and find any dog that you feel you would want to bring in to the family. Since you say Tibetan Mastiff, you're ok with a bigger animal, probably have a fair bit of space etc in the yard, so you'd probably look at a few bigger breeds, which is good, because a lot of the huge dogs are the ones with the really sweet and gentle temperaments, like Irish Wolfhounds.
Also, cats are shit.
German Shepherds I can vouch for as being wonderful. I'm looking into adopting a rescue Greyhound (retired from racing they get tossed aside), they have a wonderful and calm temperament. Plus they look exactly like Santas Little Helper!
I wouldn't focus on getting the coolest looking dog or funniest dog breed, instead you should look for one who's own lifestyle fits your lifestyle the best in terms of: grooming ( such as long hair vs. short hair), daily exercise (this can almost always be related to how hyper the dog will be), as well as the dog's size (you wouldn't want a mastiff if you live in a tiny apartment or house and a chihuahua might not be the best idea if you live in a huge place since it could get lost). However, if the breed you had in mind will be easily manageable for you, or you are at least aware of what it'll take to properly handle it, then go for it.
With that said, I think the coolest type of dog is a white wolf/dog hybrid (full-bred wolves are way to difficult for most people to handle for most people due to their excessive strength and intelligence). I mean just look at 'em!

Plus they are awesome around Halloween if you wanna
This. If you're picking a breed because of how it looks, you're going to be a terrible dog owner." Either take your time finding a good tempered dog from a shelter (first choice) or find a breed that suits your lifestyle.
@MonkeyMelon:
You can't just train breed characteristics out of your dog, no matter how young you get them.A high energy dog is going to be a nightmare unless you can give it the exercise it needs. If you're out of the house most of the time, it's going to entertain itself, and usually that means tearing apart your house. If you're away for most of the day and you don't have the time to give a dog plenty of exercise, do NOT get a highly intelligent and high energy dog. They will get bored, and you'll have a hard time with it. The same is true with an aggressive dog that you need to be assertive with. If you can't do that, your dog will assume it is the leader and not listen to you, with the worst case scenario being it will not be socialized properly and be prone to snapping at or attacking other dogs, people, and children.
Do your research and get a dog that suits you and your lifestyle so you can do the best job taking care of it. Remember, this is a living animal that you need to take care of for 10 years or more, not just sopme accessory that looks cool.
I don't mean to come off as preachy, but I volunteer at an animal shelter an I see WAY too many abandoned and abused dogs because their owners had no idea what they were getting into when they got them and either let them run away on purpose or beat the crap out of the dog whenever it did what was only it's nature. It's disgusting, and I don't want people to make the mistake of getting the wrong dog for them (or a dog at all, if they're not prepared for the responsibility), because it means the dog will suffer.
I'd recommend adopting an older dog from a shelter for your first. They've mellowed out and are easier to train than puppies, plus you're saving them and giving them a second chance at life. They've already got a personality/activity level and you can tell whether or not you'd be a good match. Both my dogs are rescues and they're great.
Breed is irrelevant. Go to a shelter and rescue a dog.
This
If your looking for company cant go past a grey hound they are lazy as shit great if you are lazy 2 as they just lay there with you
pick up an ex racing one for free get it fixed tagged all done and you saved it from getting put down
also getting 2 at a time is good as they keep each other company just dont give them bones at night
@JokerSmilez: Yeah I was just giving off my dream dog, I know not to get a dog if I can't support it's lifestyle, and also know that there not an accessory to show off. But yeah I'm talking years down the road, I'll probably just pick up one from the shelter.
Damn there's a lot of people that don't like huskies.lol
" @Lydian_Sel: No, but I've owned 5 dogs in my life, Family dogs. I'm 17 so I plan on getting a dog later in life, when I have my own house or whatever. But yeah I plan on getting whatever dog I see, that fits me. Huskies just a dream dog.I like Huskies just fine. :) They're beautiful dogs. But they are a lot of work.

When I have a house and not an apartment and can get a dog, it'll either be a shelter dog, golden retriever, or undocked rottweiler.
@JokerSmilez: Yeah all of my family's dogs have been shelter or through friends, or my Boxer followed me home. But yeah I'm not into going and getting a pure bread husky, I just remember seeing one the last time we got a dog at a shelter, and always wondered if he would be a cool dog to have, but I / family, currently have a boxer, lab,and something else. Plus another family's dog.
I have a pitbull/lab its really nice and very well behaved just dont listen to stories about pitbulls. As long as you get them as a puppy and train him he'll be very loyal. Hell the worst thing my dog has done was rip up a old pillow.... that we gave him.
A mutt from a shelter. I get that you might like the looks of a purebred, but honestly most purebreds have pretty serious health problems. Mutts are more resilient, and just as much fun.
