Death Proof or Planet Terror GOOOO
Which Grindhouse film is better
I'd have to say Planet Terror. I understand part of Tarantino's thing is that he love's extended dialogue, but the amount of talking in Death Proof was mind numbingly annoying. I was praising the heavens just when the scene would change to someplace different so that my eyes could have something to keep them open.
On the other hand, Planet Terror kept me going all the way. It was funny, just the right amount of over the top, and seeing as my exposure to zombie movies is incredibly small I enjoyed the genre it took place in.
Planet Terror was way better. Maybe Death Proof was supposed to be something or other, but to me it was uneventful, stupid, and no fun to watch.
I have not seen Planet Terror, but I honestly think Death Proof probably qualifies as being the most disappointing movie I have ever seen. It had so much potential, and I thought it was a great concept, but I found the end result to be pretty freaking awful. They created a great character with Stuntman Mike, but he ends up really not getting much focus and all of his awesomeness is diminished towards the end of the film. Tarantino, you really let me down.
Planet Terror was more accessible, more consistently funny, a bit more engaging. I think it played more obviously to the trappings of the Grindhouse genre. If I had to cave to one or the other, I'd go with Planet Terror.
But I like Death Proof, too.
Though, we all know Machete was the best thing about Grindhouse.
I didn't really like either that much. Planet Terror was too manic and too self aware, while Death Proof was 60 minutes of tacky Tarantino monologues and 20 minutes of a badass car chase.
I am a huge fan of both directors but I felt that Grindhouse was some of their weakest stuff.
Planet Terror, no contest.
Death proof had three good things going for it.
1) Awesome car.
2) "-Instead you'll have to start getting scared...Immediately."
3) Slow motion car crash in which tire runs over a face.
Everything else sucked. Everything.
Planet Terror had everything awesome and then some. It even took purposely campy and/or cliché choices and made them awesome, just to show that it could.
" Planet Terror was way better. Maybe Death Proof was supposed to be something or other, but to me it was uneventful, stupid, and no fun to watch. "I think it was supposed to be stupid to a certain point. But I gotta agree that it is pretty uneventful. Guess you really have to get into the whole atmosphere of the movie to enjoy it. I'm a "car enthusiast" (sorry for how pretentious this sounds) so the engine sounds pretty much made the movie for me. But if you watch it at home, it's a completely different experience, since you can't really get that sound, that raw engine roar... Then you discover it's actually a movie about nothing. I still love it cuz it has some really trashy girls in it, and trashy girls turn me on. :)
Death Proof seemed like Tarantino was just wanting to put dialouge that meant nothing in this movie...I didn't get it. So Planet Terror!!
I have seen the opening stripper scene with Rose McGowan from Planet Terror. That scene alone makes it win by default.
I thought both were very underwhelming. If I had to choose I would say Death Proof, if only for the above mentioned chase scene.
Neither, Machete will kick there ass whenever it gets released................ warning, this clip does contain some boobies, you have been warned..........
LOL, in America we can watch a Dog eating a baby, but flash one booby and we'll see your ass in court!" @teh_destroyer said:

IMO, you really have to understand film and what the directors are trying to do in order to enjoy these movies. Having never actually seen a grindhouse double feature, these movies satisfied all my preconceived notions gloriously. You wont enjoy either of these if you try to immerse yourself in the movie, but instead they must be watched casually from the couch with a bowl of popcorn, and you must be entirely aware that you are watching a movie. That being said, if I had to choose one over the other, it would be planet terror, because I love zombie movies. Other than that, I don't think Death Proof is any worse.
I just liked the ending of Death Proof. They beat the fuck out of that guy.
Also here is a quote from Mr. Tarantino about the movies:
"Rodriguez's film is horror because it couldnt happen, mine is terror because it could."

Death Proof had the usual brilliant touch of Tarantino, while Planet Terror was just another zombie movie with bad skin effects and a group of uninfected survivors running for their lives...
Death Proof .
I was hoping this was about actual grind house movies from the 70s, not modern ripoffs.
My favorite actual movies are: (some of the below linked trailers are NSFW)
You know Machete was a fake trailer right?"That was my point, an arm gets chopped off no big deal, but a lady drops her pants to the ground and people start flipping out. Whatever, Machete will rock. "
That movie isnt coming out.
