Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov "Lenin".
Who Are Some Of The People You Admire
Never really been the type to admire people. Not sure why, but I was never able to idolize people. At least not consciously.
Michael Caine, Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Mann, Martin Scorses, Ani DiFranco, Leonard Cohen, Stieg Larsson, and Ridley Scott.
Eminem. No, I'm not joking. I'll try and say this in the least creepy way possible, but I've always felt a connection to his music. No, I'm not a Stan-like superfan who jerks off to his albums and spends his days locked in a basement, it's just that the subject matter in his songs resonates with me more than any other artist I've encountered so far. His lyrics about working shitty jobs for shitty pay, dealing with a parent who is addicted to pills, and wanting to end it all because of it kept me going through a lot of black days and long nights. His last album was particularly inspiring. I was at my lowest point, and I obviously needed help but didn't have the sack to swallow my pride and ask for help. I'm not saying I made the decision to get help because of Eminem's music, but the tracks on Recovery were particularly encouraging, not to mention inspiring.
Those are two of the tracks that have especially resonated with me.
My hero is my cousin. She has gone through pretty much every cancer there is from breast cancer to bone cancer since she was a kid and has had more near fatal accidents and diseases than the rest of my family combined and despite of that (or maybe because of it) she is the strongest person I know mentally. She also was a teenage mom (despite every doctor saying there was no way she could have children after all of the medical problem she had) who managed to work and study and raise a kid by her self. Simply put I can't think of anyone I admire as much.
Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov "Lenin".Exactly the same person I was going to say. Lenin, definitely. Not only did he manage to succeed in forming the first ever Communist country, he also managed to do so in a manner where he had the backing of the majority of Russia's populace. He also managed to work incredibly hard at the Kremlin despite having been shot and surviving multiple strokes. The guy really exemplified the good enough aspect of Communism.... except for the Cheka.
- Josh Homme - Really influential in how I play guitar and view music as a whole
- Jeff Gerstmann - Inspiring to me
- Greg Kasavin - Also inspiring
I think those are probably the big three. I've met Jeff and Greg. Just need to find Josh somehow.
@EuanDewar: Jack White is the man. I admire him for his amazing music, but most recently the stuff he is doing with Third Man Records is amazing.
I admire a lot of people, my hero list is filled with John Frusciante, Cormac McCarthy, David Jaffe, and the Giantbomb crew. All do very different things, but one trait they all have is they just do what they love in their life and do it with great success. It is something I think every person should strive for.
The Giantbomb guys, Mike Patton, John Carmack, Frank Zappa, Cormac McCarthy, Tina Fey, Eric Wolpaw, James Portnow, John Lassiter; quite a lot of people actually. I know I'll never be a great person, so I just try to get as close as possible without going over. These are my role models.
I'd just add Steven Hawking, and most of the people developing the VASMIR.Carl Sagan and Neil deGrasse Tyson. And of course all the classics: Einstein, Da Vinci etc.
O and anyone who gets to play with the LHC.. Wish I could crash particles together :(
