omg...you drew him?? Are there any Muslims on GiantBomb?
Why are depictions of Muhammad blasphemy?
Its already explained why its against the religion. So if its clear you don't want to see a certain image, then someone makes one anyways, it will get on your nerves a bit.
Most people take it too far.
" omg...you drew him?? Are there any Muslims on GiantBomb? "Hmmmm...
*tinfoil hat*
They'll never find me now!
"According to the Seattle Times, the hadith rules that forbid the drawing of Muhammed also forbid the drawing of any living creature, as it "presumes that man has the same creative power as God." "
I wonder how they would feel about Pooplings. Am I willing to die for the Pooplings?
Absolutely.
The people who draw this stuff aren't even Muslim though. I don't get why Muslims would threaten non-Muslims for drawing him!" @AlwaysAngry We're all going to fucking die, thanks a lot asshole. "
Sure punish those who are Muslim...but the ones who are against these drawings make threats against someone who isn't even part of their faith?? It's insane logic!!
They just want an excuse for being pissy about something. I've posted numerous pics of Muhammad up online.
i hope the answer is not one that makes me lose faith in the gb community" Ok, there are enough people saying this in the thread now that I feel the need to ask: do you people actually believe that Muhammed is a wholly fictional, and is in fact not also a historical figure? "

The rule about not depicting Muhammad, though a bit extreme, makes sense given their motivation. And, I would like to point out that the majority of Muslims aren't going around and threatening people for depicting Muhammad; just like Christians, most of them are normal people and don't want trouble. There are quite a few Muslim Americans, and they're all just trying to live their lives.
Are the death-threats for drawing a picture of Muhammad excessive? Yes, they are. As much as I wish to respect others' religious beliefs, if they start threatening violence then I'm not inclined to listen. However, by being reactionary dicks about all of this, going on Muhammad drawing sprees, and stereotyping all Muslims as violent extremists, we aren't helping anything. While I respect the pro-free-speech statement that some are trying to make by drawing Muhammad, most people's MS paint antics just come off as belligerent and offensive.
" @dantheman1515 said:I'll never know what batman looks like cus he never existed. Apparently only things that actually existed have depictions that count." Because no one knows what he looks like, because he never existed. "I've seen a lot of dumb things said in religion threads from both sides of the camp. But this is close to taking the cake. "
ITT: 25 people who have never read the Koran or had an in depth conversation with a Muslim regarding Islam, and like five people who do know what they're talking about trying to dispel myths. This is what scares me about democracy.
Isn´t there a simillar thing with christians? I guess there are no pictures of god in christian churches for the same reasons. Only thing that strikes me is that those religions always imply that their rules are for everyone. So, when somebody in the polar region depicts the prophet, he or she is basically commiting a crime agains all muslims in the world, even if he or she has never heard of any of this stuff.
This is what I hate about organized religion. They always want everyone on earth to follow their beliefs and have little respect for people who think differently. Stuff like this led to the goddamn crusades and witchhunts.
Im personally tired of living in a world where we fear religous outrage and violence. Were so worried about offending some people who might go blow up one of our buildings.
" Because muslims love any opportunity to take offense at something, and threaten violence - cause hurting someone will make everything OK, amirite? It's juvenile, by this day and age, we (ie, humanity) should have outgrown it. "Except multiple people have already posted the reasoning in this thread? Are half the people here really that dense?

If you're referencing the fact that other people have stated my opinion before me; I don't read every single post before submitting my .02.
I checked my inbox and some people wanted to know my opinion, thus here it is:
I am what you could call a liberal muslim, in the sense of social issues...but I tend to be more conservative for government spending, so I'm kinda open to views. I wouldn't be upset, but I know my family in the Middle East would hate it. I guess it's a cultural thing, much like how if you walk into a Japanese home with shoes on.
I watched the SP episodes and loved them, but I do feel uncomfortable when people start using this to fuel their hate for both sides of the issue (be it Muslims getting angry, or the racists getting angry at us).
I dunno what else I can say.

People need to realize that the Muslims who are behind these ridiculous threats are in a VERY SMALL MINORITY. Probably less than 1% of the entire Muslim population do this, and now the sane, decent ones have to deal with the image that the extremists have painted of them. Now, I still don't think that any media depicting Muhammad should be censored, but I certainly am surprised at how many people actually think that Islam is a religion of barbaric violence.

" My problem is if they never drew any pictures of him in the first place because they were forbidden, how do they know what he looked like? By the logic they're following I could draw bugs bunny, call it Muhammad and they could be offened by it. "Maybe there was a description of his features?
