Like Directors and such
mine,
Shinichirō Watanabe - Cowboy Bebop, animatrix, and samuria champloo
Yasuhiro Nightow - Trigun and gungrave
Hayao Miyazaki - If you don't know him, you don't know anime
and Akira Toriyama - For the DragonBall series.(excluding GT.) And especially now since he's making more dragonball, allthough i think it's only a movie: atleast he's making it.
Your turn.
Your Favorite people behind Anime...
Satoshi Kon-- Paprika, 'nuff said. (Though Tokyo Godfathers is also well, well worth a watch.)
Kouta Hirano, of Hellsing fame...on the shoujo side, Bisco Hatori (Ouran Host Club, a vastly under-appreciated series, for all its popularity)...Hideyuki Kikuchi, who writes the Vampire Hunter D novels. I interviewed him and Saiko Takaki, the artist behind the new D manga at Anime Expo and they were awesome people. (You can read that interview here if you'd like.)
Hideaki Anno (director of Neon Genesis Evangelion) is certainly a force to be reckoned with, if only he could get over his Lucas-esque tendencies and move on to more new projects...and speaking of Gainax, one of the co-founders, Hiroyuki Yamaga, is one of my favorite people in the anime industry in Japan. He's just an awesome guy.
Oh, and Nabeshin (Shinichi Watanabe). How can there be no Nabeshin on this list? Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemi, etc...plus he's just hilarious. I've got a write-up of his appearance at A-Kon in Dallas back in May here. Fantastic stuff.
