Cronenberg's Crash is the only real answer, isn't it?

Anyway, I liked the original Mad Max too.

If we count Le Salaire De La Peur/Wages of Fear or Sorcerer, which are more about trucks, I'd say one of those.

Duel and The Car are classics too. Not quite as action packed but still entertaining for me when I was a kid.

Duel, Death Proof, Taxi and Tokyo Drift. If documentaries count, and why shouldn't they, then Senna of course.

EDIT: I somehow forgot about Sorcerer. I guess it's more of a truck movie, but still the vehicles play a leading role.

Bullitt, Ronin, Tokyo Drift, Road Warrior and Fury Road, the original Gone in Sixty Seconds, Baby Driver, Tucker, and Death Race 2000. I have a soft spot for the newer Death Race movies too but wouldn't list them in my favorites.

It's very sad to hear about Senna's death from his car crash back in Imola Grand Prix 1994.

I also really dig Ford V. Ferrari and I'd say maybe my favorite Fast and the Furious is 6 (I'm a sucker for the airplane scene).

I also enjoy Talladega Nights.

Come on people...we all know the answer is

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

The screenplay co-written by Roald Dahl, based on Ian Fleming's novel Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car. The James Bond author wrote a book about THE FIRST AUTOBOT! It is a transforming car that is hinted at being sentient! The car is drives on road, speeds across the ocean, and flies in the air.

Ronin has definitely stuck with me, the car bits at least are great. It looks like they filmed actual cars racing around Paris which I love, you can’t replace that kind of physicality with CGI in my opinion. They also leave the car chases without music which is a very rare and welcome choice, it’s really effective.

Not sure, have liked quite a few and the genre is pretty broad, but damn did I enjoy Ford v. Ferrari (2019). That history is so fascinating and the movie was very well written and acted.

I need to post in at least one GTxForza thread so I will list one that hasn't been mentioned yet (even if it might not be my favorite):

Rush

Although it has too much CGI, the era of F1 and drivers it referenced were some of the most fascinating in racing history.

American Graffiti, Need for Speed and Convoy are pretty fun but Vanishing Point is probably my "tasteful" favorite.

I guess Gone in 60 Seconds since I'm a Nick Cage fan via various proxies such as Alex Navarro and Matt McMussels.

Ford v Ferrari will go down as a classic.
For more fantasy, the anime Redline (2009). Also check out the short The Running Man in the film Neo Tokyo.

Some not mentioned above (or I missed it if they were):

Grand Prix (old skool F1 action starring James Garner & Toshiro Mifune) - you get to see how Spa and Monza used to look!

Days of Thunder - based on loads and loads of real NASCAR stories, and it's kind of nuts what they did to get it made, like qualifying cars and running them in real NASCAR races - go watch The Golden Hour, a doc that aired recently on the making of Days of Thunder.

Also if you watch Le Mans, then you have to watch the companion documentary Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans. That movie had a real rocky road to getting made (like no script) which is partly why it seems like watching a race with a light sprinkling of plot. Loads of real race cars and drivers got used, and some got badly hurt. Also - do not trust Steve McQueen with a woman or your money, other than that, an interesting bloke to have a drink with for sure.

Repo Man better count as a car movie, also a favorite movie of mine in general.

Fury Road is just good eats, and for shits and giggles, Tokyo Drift is embedded too far into my memory not to include it.

Not the most obvious answer but Dazed and Confused. the cars really are such a big part of the movie's vibe. And on the commentary Linklater goes even more in-depth on the whole 70's muscle car culture in the US.

As far as car chases go, Bullitt, Ronin and The Driver are at the top of my list.

For car porn, John Wick and Gone in 60 Seconds (Eleanore is my actual dream car), and also Christine.

Top truck movies (they're technically cars, right?) for me are Convoy, Duel and Sorcerer.

Best tricycle movies are... nah.

Here is an obscure one that I actually like a lot and no because of who stars in it. Corvette Summer (1978) "A high school grad and a hooker-in-training try to track down his stolen Corvette." Its stars Mark Hamill and Annie Potts!

It is really a nice story. It is a bit stilted and 70s -sh by today's standards, but but full of character actors you will know. The car is very cool in a way only a custom Corvette could be...candy apple red, sparkles...weird hood scoop.
