Plumbers Don't Wear Ties to PC, PS4/5, and Switch in 2021 for some reason. The reason is memes.

Memes in gaming are out of control. I know that Night Trap and Double Switch got re-released on Switch and other places so this isn't shocking, except that this 'game' is even worse and doesn't even have the nostalgia element of those more famous titles. It's also kind of porny, which, I mean, fine? I guess?

The preservationist in me is sort of glad about this, but there are so many more deserving games, even in the FMV genre. A combination of infamy and what must have been dirt cheap rights made this possible, I guess.

Is it something that could be worth picking up on deep sale for like $2 for a "so bad it's good" type playthrough? I guess. I imagine it will get streamed, and the nudity is censored by default, which helps there, but maaan...if we're going to be dredging up old terrible games to put on modern platforms can we also get some of the good ones? Like how about an official English Policenauts release? Or a re-release of Snatcher? Or even Wing Commander?

Extremely frightening for me personally as I just YESTERDAY rewatched the Thursday Night Throwdown from 2012 where Ryan buys a 3DO and they close the show by playing Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.... what is this fever dream?

I remember when the lost PC version showed up on the internet archive a few years ago. I actually played through it. Quite a bizarre game that has a real amateur feel to it, with weird clip-art screens of rallycars showing up every now and then, eventhough that had nothing to do with the story of the game itself, if i remember correctly. It also lacked some of the video material of the 3do version that Jeff showcased on the site. I also think that it has a handful of characters acting as narrators on screen as if it's some sort of theater performance that takes place around them. Adding some (awful) comedy to the whole thing.

There's a surprising lack of nudity throughout the game. There's a lot of Dude showerbutt & lady running through the city wearing a bra while getting chased though. Definitly the kind of game that's worth playing through once so you can say 'oh yea, i have seen what it is' but spending actual money on it might be a bridge too far for most folk. It's also like.. 2 hours of runtime at most? To be fair, that's probably for the best.

It'll fit right in with all the other shovelware on Steam, and it'll be one of the better ones for sure, but it's strange and a little alarming that Sony and Nintendo approved it for their stores.

Now I have to watch them playing it again.

@apewins: At this point Sony and Nintendo approve anything that runs on their systems. Look up Gilson B Pontes games for evidence about Sony. And the Switch is absolutely chock full of all kinds of shovelware.

This will be far from the worst game on either system. It may be the worst game put out by Limited Run, though.

LRG has been searching for the creators for nearly four years, so this wasn't a meme born of opportunity. I have to applaud their dedication, be it to game preservation or memes.
