Persona 3 Movie #1 announced, P3MC = Makoto Yuki

The official website was updated recently with some information regarding the upcoming Persona 3 movie.

Title: Persona3 The Movie #1: The Spring of Birth

Director: Noriaki Akitaya (directed Bakuman anime)

Supervisor: Seiji Kishi (directing the Devil Survivor 2 anime)

Music: Shoji Meguro

Anime studio: AIC ASTA

Japanese release date: Fall 2013

The P3MC's official name is apparently Makoto Yuki. Igor will return (most likely with canned dialogue like in the P4 anime).

Like I said in the anime discussion thread: having Kishi who's not an especially good director and AIC which is a really mediocre animation studio (especially the ASTA branch) working on this is a huge fucking bummer so my expectations have already been lowered.

Can't wait to wait for a English dubbed version.

I just got this game on Vita after beating P4G for the 6th time, seems just as good so far and I really liked Persona 4 the Animation so hopefully this is good too.

There are multiple movies. Notice 'Persona 3 The Movie #1'.

The first result is this thread. The second is also related to Persona 3. The third is her, but isn't clear about her working in porn (it took me a while to realize that AV is adult video).

If I'm not mistaken, Google modifies the results of your searches based on your previous searches, cookies, and other things, which might be why Video_Game_King got video games and Bocam got porn.

EDIT: Which doesn't answer the question of why Bocam was Google'ing the name of a completely ficitonal character whose name was only just announced in the first place.

(I find this whole exchange slightly humorous, actually. Bocam knows Japanese, so I wouldn't think that knowing the name of a Japanese porn star is necessarily that far-fetched)

I do, too (kinda......I'm trying, damn it!), but I haven't run into any Japanese porn stars or anything. I have run into some racy terms, but I can't remember any of them.

The reason I know Makoto Yuki is a porn star is because that's what 2ch was talking about.

I've also just now realized that depending on how the kanji works out, wouldn't a name like Makoto Yuki work better for Persona 4 than 3?

@video_game_king: The name means "Rightful Castle of Bonds" considering what happens at the end of P3, it fits.

結 = “End”

城 = “Fortress”

理 = “The Underlying Principles of the Cosmos”

That just makes me feel worse! Also, the problem's more that there's plenty of knowledge on Japanese online, but nothing on what the hell you're supposed to do with that knowledge, and it's not the type of thing you can just learn on your own.

(In other news, a single misclick has wiped out a lot of work I'd put into a recent blog. Damn it.)

Just browsing around, it looks exactly like every other source I've ever seen, which means it's probably going to assume I know what to do with the information it's giving me. I'm not entirely sure how to phrase it. It's like an Achilles and the Tortoise scenario, where I can understand vocab and grammar, but not Japanese. And that's a best case scenario.

@video_game_king: Learning Japanese is memorization. That's the only way to learn kanji.

@video_game_king: If you know grammar, sentence structure, conjugation, etc, isn't the next step just to get more practice? Use something like Japan Guide and start writing to people, maybe organise some skype calls. If you don't use Anki you should download it and make a vocab/phrase deck. Play untranslated games and just familiarise yourself I guess.

Also I get like 3 pages of porn on google, and no link to this thread. Guess that says a lot about my searching habits.

I've tried Anki in the past, but the results there have been kinda crap (start it up, get a billion cards, hit "again" on them until I've brute-forced my way through without learning or reinforcing a damn thing). I'm going to try Memorize.com as soon as I move all my Anki stuff there, though. We'll see how that goes.

On practice, though, I've been practicing every day. Hell, I'm going to listen to South Park in an hour for an hour. It's just that for all the practice I've been doing, I haven't seen a single iota of results. I'm still stuck in the "picking out words" phase, and I'm guessing part of that is because I haven't found a better way of doing something with what little knowledge of Japanese I have.

(I've also tried browsing for Japanese Skype partners (as in "I just now tried") before watching my severe social anxiety/incompetence set in.)

Am pretty excited about this, though I wish they'd just kept his name from the manga. Weird that they keep changing them for the anime series.

@cathryn: Too be fair, the manga are only based on the game and don't have any really direct association to the game or anime adaptions, and I'm assuming the same could be said for anime adaptions.

Also, I love the name Arisato Minato but I actually really really like Yuki Makoto. And considering it's translation, I find it incredibly fitting. Although I find it pretty damn hilarious he shares the name with an adult video star.

He's John Shepard in my current playthrough and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. Shepard is canon.

im not sure this story needs/deserves a movie (or potentially several i guess) but i'm pretty curious as to how they will characterize the MC (i liked what they did with yu) so i'll check it out

How many exactly? Because I thought the P4 anime felt rushed with 26 episodes, I can't imagine this being any better unless they do like 12 movies.

Let's hope there won't be any mistakes in the movie.

@ll_exile_ll: I don't know if they confirmed a number. I dunno, there are a lot more worthless S. Links in P3 that I hope they don't bother with and just animate the main story. If they do that I can see it working in 3-5 movies. I'm not one of those crazy people that expects and demands that every small detail be animated so I'm not massively worried about them fitting everything in. If it was one movie it'd be a different story but I think it'll be fine.
