The trailer for "Sonic the Hedgehog" is here and looks even worse than you already thought it did

Making the character look better still isn't going to make this uninteresting movie good all of a sudden. There is no amount of post production that can fix this. Unless it's delayed there little to nothing that will fix how terrible this movie will be.

I'm not trying to start any conspiracies, but consider this: in the trailer we see Jim Carrey evolve from looking like not-Dr Eggman to looking more like Dr Eggman. Sonic looks very not-Sonic. What if this Sonic is pre-Genesis, and the whole movie is an origin story that explains why his eyes merge into one, his hands meld into gloves, and his shoes become cartoonish?

@doctorodds: that would make about as much sense as any of the sonic games, so sure why not.

Really, I think they are doing what the Masters of the Universe movie did. He's from a different time/planet and isn't accustomed to our world and then for reasons is stuck in said world and saves the day. Just so you know that film nearly bankrupted Cannon. So if that is the case, they really got a a great draft on how this will completely fail before it even gets released.

I'm a 33 year old legit fan of Sonic and have been since I was in, like, preschool. I think that this movie looks fun as hell. Of course it looks stupid. How could it be anything but dumb? Sonic is, of course, hideous, because for some reason they decided to take Sonic's bizarre character design and logic it out for a possible reality, rather than take the Detective Pikachu approach and apply reality (IE: textures) to cartoony looking creatures. One worked super well; the other failed. Guess which one is which.

Like, how hard is that? Nobody wants to see Sonic with joints, small hands and feet, and two eyeballs. Gross.

Anyway, I asked my friend, who has two young kids (6 or so) who love Sonic, what his children thought of the trailer, expecting horror and/or confusion. The kids are fucking stoked to see this thing. Guess that the joke is on all of us super edgy adults poking fun at it, huh?
