Unexpected. I remember seeing his perfectly fluent Japanese in the promo for Hideo Kojima and how warm it felt that this great man was running Sony.
So long, excited to see what’s up with your next adventure.
Weird i thought Sony computer entertainment ( the PlayStation part of Sony ) was doing well ? Did he found a football club he could manage as well ?
I wouldn't read anything about the health of Sony into this. It's a stressful job, he's had it for a while, and he probably has all the money in the world already. I can't imagine he was fired.
@soulcake: I think this is more of a case of an exec stepping away when they are pretty much at the top of their game and achieving a pretty massive milestone. I imagine it opens a lot of opportunities for you when you can say you're coming off of building the number 1 product in your market/industry.
@soulcake: It is doing well. This is likely him wanting to do something else combined with there being no higher position within Sony for him to go to. So long as Kaz is still around there's a ceiling on how high guys like Andrew House can get.
I hope he stays around in the company. He's a likable personality. He was obviously very business oriented but he had a charm about him.
House, who is 52, will remain as chairman until the end of the year.
Gives them time to announce a successor. Sounds like Andrew wants to move on, rather than a reshuffle.
Sony’s starting to get complacent at the top again. Switch proved Vita could’ve been a success, the PS4 pro hasn’t been supported well enough especially for old TVs, the PSVR has all the tech right but few major games, PS Now is an afterthought while Game Pass and Backwards Compatibly (TM) are handling old games right, PS Vue isn’t making a compelling argument compared to the price features and channels of Sling etc. and Xbox having antenna support is probably better for most people, I think that Direct TV exclusive thing expired right(?), and now that all their big exclusives hyped since around launch are about to be out (Uncharted, Horizon, Last Guardian, God of War, Detroit) there’s not a lot on a table unless they make tons of new exclusives announcements at next E3.
I know that dude who was all “yeah indie games only mattered in 2013 when we needed their support” didn’t speak for the whole company, but they need to start bending over backwards like Xbox has for its fans to keep the #1 spot cause I don’t think getting COD maps two weeks early now cuts it.
