Miyamoto is going to make Super Mario Galaxy 2 harder as well.

CVG Article

Original article here.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be a "really challenging" game, Shigeru Miyamoto has said.

Speaking to our mates at Official Nintendo Magazine, the Mario creator said he hasn't decided whether the sequel will incorporate the "Super Guide" feature from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which shows stuck players video walkthroughs of each level.

"As far as the challenge of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is concerned, I think it's going to be a really challenging game, but whether or not we are going to incorporate the Super Guide, I just cannot tell," Miyamoto told ONM.

"In general, wherever and whenever appropriate, I think we will want to incorporate that kind of thing, but I cannot commit to anything specific right now."

The full interview with Mr. Miyamoto can be found in issue 50 of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday 20 November, we're told.

End of CVG article

 Hmmmm...

I had a tough time completing the first Mario Galaxy.

Seems like Miyamoto is making his games a lot tougher nowadays. I just hope it doesn't cross the line from challenging to frustrating, like Mario Bros. 3 and Mario Sunshine did.

I actually thought the first one was really easy. So this isn't bad news, at least to me anyway.

It took me at least 30 attempts to beat the Bouldergeist in the first game, this is not good for me.

Galaxy only really got difficult near the end, mostly with stuff like the green star galaxies, which were more cheap and unfair than legitimately hard. SMG 2 harder? Sure. Sign me up.

@kashif1: yea, they did that because Nintendo of America thought that American players would fine the real SMB2 too hard or something like that.  But they included the real game with Super Mario All-Stars for SNES, under the title "the Lost Levels."  It actually wasn't that great in my opinion  I liked the "fake" American SMB2 more...it had some awesome music and it was kinda trippy, a nice change of pace...just sucks that they lied to us, but I probably wouldn't have bothered with it if it didn't have Mario in the title.

@kashif1: It was called "Doki Doki Panic", I believe.

And I'm all for a difficult Mario game, although collecting all the stars in Galaxy was quite a challenge.

I doubt it will be authentically hard. Harder, perhaps, but not seriously frustrating. Nintendo would never develop a Demon's Souls.

Still haven't beaten Sunshine, I'd love to have that guide shit for the "clean up the beach" level. As long as the toughness isn't correlated to poor balancing Im all for this I suppose.

Well, I guess they're leaving the casual crowd behind. I only completed Mario 64. I never finished the NES versions, and I only got 87 stars in Galaxy.

As a gamer since Atari, it was not difficult at all.

Maybe 1 or 2 stars (like the purple coins with disappearing platforms) were hard with luigi because he is unbalanced, but ya.

Huh.

I never beat Super Mario 3 on account of the final world being too hard on a keyboard. (emulation.)

I actually found Super Mario Sunshine to be the EASIEST super mario game I ever played. 2 was MUCH harder, in my opinion.

Bizarrely, I've had the super guide come up TWICE in New SMB Wii. That game is wayyyy harder than you would think. I haven not used it though. It just presents the option.

WHy in the world wouldn't they include it in Galaxy 2? You don't HAVE to use it. Why not present the option? Isn't that the whole point?

I wonder if Miyamoto is recieving pressure from Nintendo to make his games more "hardcore".

Honestly I think he is/was suffering from the same problem George Lucas/Steven Speilbert and all other old creators suffer from. As they get older they start to talk down to people younger than them. I think that's why his games have been so easy lately.

Most casual gamers don't finish games regardless of difficulty. Making the back-end of the game more difficult really won't effect the casual crowd.
