Poll What do you usually call the Super Nintendo Entertainment System? (573 votes)

S-N-E-S (by the letters) 14%
Super N-E-S (word, letters) 3%
Snes (as a word) 47%
Super Nes (2 words) 1%
Super Nintendo 35%
Super Nintendo Entertainment System 0%
Super Famicom (your accent) 0%
Supa Famikon (like in Japanese) 0%

Maybe you call it different things depending on the context or sentence. I guess I'm asking what have you called it the most.

I just say it as one word usually, Snes.

We all called it Snes (one word) in our area, so that's what stuck with me.

Growing up it was S N E S or Super Nintendo. However, being exposed to so many videos and podcasts where people say Snes and Nes, its starting to rub off on me. It's a good shorthand, and who wants to say full words in 2017? I ain't got time for that shit.

As a kid we either called it "Super Nintendo" or just "Super". But just Super is never an option in polls like these.

I don't think the European version was called "Entertainment System", so just Super Nintendo. Looking at the American version, I can see the need for clarification, since it doesn't look very entertaining at all.

Super Nintendo. It was a huge cultural shock when I first heard people call it Snes.

Snes. Single word. Sometimes S-N-E-S if someone doesn't quite understand. It took me a while to realise it stood for "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" so I didn't even think about that as an option for a while. The quickest and fastest option makes sense to me though. Plus I generally look to say acronyms as words if I can reasonably do so, that's half the fun of a good acronym.

Super Ness, which I'm now learning is almost unheard of.

I remember someone, possibly Garnett Lee of 1UP, calling it the "S-Ness" and everyone around just breaking out in laughter because they'd never heard it said that way before. I can see how someone would get to that conclusion but for some reason "Sness" just made more sense.

Just snes as a word. The NES here was simply called Nintendo or later Nintendo 8-bit.

I used to call it the "Super" when it was new. Nintendo 64 was just "64" and the NES was just "Nintendo."

The missing options are "Super" and "Snez" (not to be confused with Snes). Now I call it S.N.E.S. or Snes or Super N.E.S.

Regardless, it's clear. The S-N-E-S people are on the wrong side of history.

Do you people call the NAACP the Naaahcup? When a series of letters are arranged to each stand for a different word, it's kind of customary to pronounce those letters separately, as a shortened version of a series of words.

@spaceinsomniac: As others have pointed out, that's nonsense. If there's an easy-to-pronounce acronym, people default to it. Like laser, radar and gif/jif.

Super Nintendo when talking. SNES when typing it out.

I don't think I've heard anyone actually pronounce SNES as one word in everyday life.

Either by Super Nintendo or letters. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "snes" as a word. That's interesting.

I use "SNES" and "S-N-E-S" interchangeably. I probably use "S-N-E-S" more frequently though.

I will say though that with the coming of the snes classic I have been saying it as one word more just cause otherwise it's kind of a mouthful.

But it's wrong and I don't like it.

Super N.E.S most of the time but I also say Super Nintendo. Saying snes as a word just sounds silly to me.

@dodobasse: Wrong side of history? Lol it's whatever your circle of friends called it. I don't think we were too bothered about the correct name usage.

Sorry. DP.

I’m from the UK, so it was always “snez”, and the one before it was retroactively said as “nez”.
