I hate to be the guy to keep the bad news going on Ubisoft but uh.........seriously? Seriously? They can't get Tetris to run correctly on PS4? Those hitches are absolutely terrible. It's freakin' Tetris, guys. How did this even happen? Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs are one thing, but Tetris? This has actually become a bit sad now.

UPDATE: So apparently the problem is with people with a boat full of users in their friends list making the game slow or something, which is not exactly something they could have easily tested, I guess? Anyway, it's not really a widespread problem and that seems to be the only way these hitches can occur.

According to Greg's twitter, apparently this is just caused by a large friends list and playing it offline fixes the problems.

I thought the video was buffering, my god... it shouldn't be possible for tetris of all things to run that bad.

Well, we've reached critical mass. They've done it guys, they said it couldn't be done, they said it was an impossible feat. They said no one could possibly be at an incompetency level high enough where it would be feasibly possible, but it has come to pass.

They managed to fuck up Tetris.

Tetris, the game that can run on a calculator.

He was up all night playing Tetris, his pupils already had turned into 2x2 pieces.

At breakfast he started to bend the forks and spoons into L's. At work, every problem was an L and the only solution were squares. Come rush hour, he was trying to Z his way between traffic. A police officer pulled him to the side. He burst into tears, saying an L was looming above his head like the L of damocles. He was taken into custody for talking plain gibberish. At the precinct the officer realised the true gravity of his words, an L-shaped block was frozen on the top of his screen, marring his rightful place on the leaderboards. The Tetris fields of elysium were so cose, yet so far away. If only he hadn't bought ubisoft's tetris. Some say you can catch a glimmer of his soul when trying to get a TI-83 to run tetris...

How can anyone mess up tetris this bad?

How could they fuck this up... It's Tetris... That's the one with the differently formed blocks you stack, right? It's been done on literally every platform known to man. I made a working version... what the fuck is going on at Ubisoft?

Ubisoft definitely vying with EA for most hated company this year. Vying? Hell! They blew EA out of the water this year.

You guys are overreacting. It's a friends list problem which is really hard to test and is only something people with thousands of PSN friends like game reviewers and snoop dogg will ever encounter.

I know it's cool to hate on Ubisoft right now but there are much better reasons to do so.

@corevi: But why on earth would a huge friendslist cause slowdown on a Tetris game? I can give you hint; the botched malware that is called Uplay.

I still don't understand why this game isn't on steam. Oh well. There's always the free Tetris you can easily find and play online which is fine.

My only question regarding Tetris Ultimate is whether or not this is a good Tetris game. If so, I might buy it for the 3DS.

That's probably why it isn't on Steam. Not only are there thousands of flash Tetris games you could also emulate pretty much every version of the game including Battle Gaiden.

Oh my ... makes you wonder if the debugg systems are now actually worth the time to test on and should the developers just go straight up to normal every day consoles and go bonkers with the friend list and what not.

@corevi: That doesn't make sense. According to the wiki this version of the game is on PC. It's just not on steam.

I'm not sure if that's accurate, though.

@bollard: No, the franchise is owned by the Tetris Company and they usually will license it out to whoever wants to make another Tetris game. They don't seem super strict about it as long as it's paid for and what not. Several companies have licensed it out over the years. Probably every big developer/publisher has tried making one at least once at this point. It seems like that anyway.

This is pretty much the camp I'm in. There was Tetris DS which had a lot of awesome mini-games that twisted things up and they were all Nintendo themed.

That's about the extent of justifying buying Tetris now to me.

So I think this game might be a different kind of broken on Xbox One. Matchmaking seems sorta boned, unless there's just no one playing it. I've played maybe 7 or 8 online matches and 3 have been completely busted. Two cases where my game crashed mid match and one case where the winner had his board filled almost the entire game, junk lines all the way up to the top and more jut some bug kept him from losing.

Yeah, that game is great! I still have it for my DS.
