^^^ YOU DON'T REALLY NEED TO VOTE ANYMORE! TOP GEAR TEST TRACK WON, AND THE GB100 IS OVER! ^^^
This Sunday, we're continuing a New Year's Day tradition filled with extra-intense races for personal glory and prizes. The GB100 has returned, and this year, we're going multi-class!
The 3rd Annual GB100 Grand Prix Endurance Race
WHERE: Forza Motorsport 4 online
WHEN: January 1st, 2012, 8:00 PM EST (check other time zones here). Lobby/party will open up around 7:30 PM EST for mucking around.
HOW TO JOIN:
- If you're in the Giant Bomb car club, you're set! Just wait for an invite (and be sure to let me know if it doesn't work).
- Otherwise, send a friend request toGiantBomb Forza (unless you already have that OR Laz PsEG on your friends list). When the time comes around, I'll start a lobby and invite everyone I see in Forza 4. If possible, feel free to join my lobby without an invite!
- If you'd really like the ability to easily join the lobby on your own, you can send Laz PsEG a friend request, as well, but at least let me know what it's for if you don't think I'll know who you are by gamertag alone.
In the incredibly unlikely event more than sixteen people show up, the order will be first come, first served, with Race Night Regulars getting invites first.
THE RACES:
As voted on by you and the rest of the Giant Bomb community in the poll above:
- Race 1: F Class & A Class, Top Gear Test Track, 22 laps
- Race 2: E Class & S Class, Top Gear Test Track, 22 laps
- Race 3: D Class & R3 Class, Top Gear Test Track, 22 laps
- Race 4: C Class & R2 Class, Top Gear Test Track, 22 laps
- Race 5: B Class & R1 Class, Top Gear Test Track, 12 laps
FEEL FREE TO JOIN FOR ONE OR ALL OF THE RACES! If a race is already underway, don't hesitate to join the lobby to spectate and chat with us.
THE POTENTIAL TRACKS:
- Bernese Alps: A fast and chilly fantasy track in the Alps, capable of testing your mettle and ability to handle cold tires.
- Indianapolis: The F1 circuit seems comically oversized for most car classes, but that doesn't make it any less tricky.
- Sears Point: One of NASCAR's two road course stops, Sears Point used to be known for tricky elevation changes and turns until the IRL screwed that up. Despite the recent wussification, its turns still demand a decent amount of precision.
- Hockenheimring: You know when the German Grand Prix isn't at the Nürburgring? It's here.
- Nürburgring: You know when the German Grand Prix isn't at the Hockenheimring? It's here. Not to be confused with the monstrous Nordschleife.
- Top Gear Test Track: The very same track celebrities and the Stig run on the show. Yes, it has a dangerous crossover, and no, there won't be any damage if you choose this because there's no pit lane at Dunsfold.
THE RULES:
- Have fun.
- Don't be a dick.
Damage will be set on Simulation unless the Top Gear Test Track is selected (if that happens, disregard this rule and the next rule). This means you'll probably need to enter the pits at some point, so be sure to make a note of where it is on the track. If you take significant damage, don't just limp around the track whining about your misfortune. Instead, pit as soon as possible. The time you'll save with a repaired car often makes up for the time lost pitting.- If you hit or take out someone accidentally, abide by rule 2 and give them back their position once they've recovered. Just a helpful suggestion of courtesy! If the Top Gear Test Track is selected, don't worry about this rule if you collide with someone in the crossover. That's inevitable.
PRIZES:
As always, prizes are subject to be added or changed. Depending on turn-out, prizes may take some time to be gifted.
This year, it's all about Ferrari. I bought several Ferraris in order to earn a certain achievement. If you do well during the GB100, you can have one of them. That includes the 10,000,000cr 250 GTO, which you can consider the grand prize.
The cars up for grabs are as follows:
#83 Risi Competizione F430GTTaken by J3ffro250 CaliforniaTaken by Slowbird250 GTOTaken by Keval N- 360 Modena
- 599 GTB Fiorano
599 GTOTaken by SushiXXX599XXTaken by Hay Four Zee- California
Enzo FerrariTaken by Vigilante HD- F40
- F430
F50Taken by Blarg- FF
Show up and do well, and one of those cars could be yours.
January 1st, 2012, 8:00 PM EST.
A night of tough racing awaits you. I hope to see you there!

Will you guys capture the footage from the race?
Hoping to, yeah. We missed last year's footage, but that was because Forza's video uploading became utterly impossible to tolerate for anything longer than snippets. That should be less of an issue this time around.

Which version of Infineon are you considering? The NASCAR one, or the shit version? Also, stock cars are R3, right?
Almost certainly the full sports car version, rather than the NASCAR version. We're going to stick to the longer layouts for the potential tracks, though we might switch between the standard and reverse layout if the Bernese Alps course is selected.
I voted Sears Point so maybe I'm a little bias but the two tracks with the most votes right now are a bit disappointing.
It's worth noting that I haven't mentioned the end timer conditions as of yet. Looking at potential lap times on the leaderboards, here's what I think we'll go with:
- If Indianapolis, Sears Point, or the Top Gear test track are selected, the end of race timer will run for five minutes when the lead car from the slower pack finishes.
- If the Bernese Alps, Hockenheim, or the Nurburgring are selected, the end of race timer will run for ten minutes when the overall leader finishes.
As of this post, the Top Gear test track leads by three votes. Remember that we'll race with damage turned off if that track's selected, since there's no pit lane to repair or refuel the cars. If you'd rather we race another track, now's the time to place your votes or rally your friends behind your track of choice! The poll results will be final around 7:30 PM EST on January 1st.
Well, everyone, it's just over six hours to go until we start racing. Looks like the Top Gear Test Track and its dangerous crossover is a lock unless the voting takes a drastic turn elsewhere.
Remember: It's a figure eight layout. I don't want any of you getting lost, so look at this video if you're not sure.
Seriously, don't get lost.
All right, everyone. Less than an hour away from the festivities. I hope you're able to join us.
I'll be opening the lobby up a little early and firing away invites about ten minutes before starting. My hope is that any potential connection issues will be staved off by getting everyone in the lobby for a few minutes before the action begins. That also means that if you want to join in and the club invites aren't working...you may want to let me know so I can resend invites.
Since the track is almost assuredly Top Gear, remember that the higher A-R1 classes will have a bit of downtime at the end of each race, since only the lower class will start the timer. That also means that if you choose to race in the F-B classes during a race, you'll be dealing with crazed AI vehicles in your final laps.
Five races, 100 laps. Get ready for the first war of 2012.
Well, everyone, that GB100 was pretty interesting, with quite a few nice competitive moments. I hope everyone had fun!

So! With that all out there, here's my arbitrary method of choosing who wins:
GB100 Arbitrary Final Standings
- Keval N (for winning in four rounds)
- Vigilante HD (for winning in three rounds)
- Hay Four Zee (for winning a round)
- Blarg (for using ninja skills to outsmart Slowbird and take 2nd place in race 1)
- Slowbird (for being thwarted only by ninja skills and cars that look suspiciously like trains in the crossover)
- SushiXXX (for using a freakin' Raptor in race 5)
- J3ffro (for participating in every race and hanging in there, and two impossibly clean laps)
- Falcon (for participating in three races, as I run out of interesting things to say)
- Hazard5040 (for participating in two races)
- Beef Daddy (for participating in two races)
- Jugnutts (sorry, poopkins, that NFS drift car's making me raaaaage)
- Razorback (for helping prove that the crossover would indeed create chaos)
- Sparklykiss (because somebody had to fill this spot, please don't hate me)
13 cars, 13 Ferraris I have to give away. How convenient! Keval will get first pick, and we'll move on down the order from there.
As a reminder, here's the Ferraris on offer:
#83 Risi Competizione F430GTTaken by J3ffro250 CaliforniaTaken by Slowbird250 GTOTaken by Keval N- 360 Modena
- 599 GTB Fiorano
599 GTOTaken by SushiXXX599XXTaken by Hay Four Zee- California
Enzo FerrariTaken by Vigilante HD- F40
- F430
F50Taken by Blarg- FF
I'll also probably throw in another car of some sort to everyone as my thanks for participating, especially since I now have a boatload of cash thanks to all that racing.
Again, I hope you all had fun, and we'll see you next year on the first day of the year for another GB100! Also, keep an eye out for upcoming events over the next few months. At the very least, expect a special event in July.
Pictures and video to come in the near future, time permitting. ...Saints Row is one hell of a fun game, so emphasis on that whole time permitting thing.
I just want to call out @Keval_N real quick, since I'm waiting on his first pick of the Ferrari lot here. After Keval's picked, I'll give the insanely fast (seriously, look at his leaderboard times, the dude is amazingly fast) @VigilanteHD a pick of the remaining Ferraris.
Not that it'll necessarily be the only car prize. We'll see.
@PsEG: Thanks for the call out, wasn't really paying attention to the forum for a few days as I was having far too much fun playing Saints Row The Third. Thanks for letting me know it was on sale Jugnutts!
I will take the 250 GTO please :) It's very pretty and also very expensive. Don't worry, I won't sell it.
You can give it a nice "pretty" paint job if you want like I did with your CTS-V's.
You all may see me as being in last place. I just see it as me having the biggest number and being bigger is the Best of the Best™.
@slowbird: It is, and it's yours.

OK! Now it's Sushi's turn to choose. Sorry if this is going too slowly for some of you, but given the spare money I now have as a result of the GB100, I'll try to make it worth the wait.
All right, Hazard messaged me over Live asking for a surprise like Vigilante. The dice roll gave him the 360 Modena.
The 599 GTB Fiorano, California, F430, and FF remain. @beefdaddy82 gets the next pick, and then @Jugnutts gets his choice of Ferrari.
I'm also starting to narrow down what bonuses I want to give to you all. Just maybe.
