The amount of content available to consume through digital distribution is expanding quickly. Most game now offer some sort of DLC to try to both increase the take from that title and deter its entry into the used game market. Often times the DLC strategy for a game includes both free and paid-for content. FreeLC oftentimes is used to promote the game by offering free extra content so more people might play the game the DLC is for. Discussing the DLC option for a game, however, often does not make that distinction, and often requires the use of 'premium' for paid content. The addition of FreeLC to the vernacular used to describe the after-sale digital content that is freely available removes ambiguity about whether something requires further payment or not (a problem when just using DLC).
